Patent number: 5988684Abstract: Books with internal mechanization have rotary and linear drive mechanisms which displace objects along linear, non-linear, rotary and three-dimensional paths relative to the book pages are described. Spatially arranged cut-outs in the pages which correspond to the range of motion of the displaced and translated objects allow different moving objects to be viewed at different areas of the book from page to page. Battery powered drive mechanisms with push-button operation accessible from the front of the book enables easy, selective activation of the moving objects, independent of the position of the front cover and pages relative to the back cover. Belt-driven wheels provide inherent clutching action to prevent damage to the drive mechanism. Manually operated embodiments of the various drive mechanisms which produce each of the described motions are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Lawrence Product DevelopmentInventors: Lawrence A. Patent number: 5542570Abstract: A transparent thermoplastic housing has an upper and a lower compartment divided by a ramp. The lower compartment houses a battery, motor and drive mechanism for turning a candy dispensing screw in communication with the upper compartment. The lower compartment is hidden by an outer opaque label. Candy pieces of like dimensions are stored in the upper compartment and fed serially to the screw by a first channel formed with the ramp. A second channel next to the screw along its length maintains the candy received from the first channel aligned serially. The screw displaces the candy from the first channel to the second channel and to a dispensing port at the top of the housing. A clutch in the drive mechanism permits the screw to be turned manually.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: Cap Toys, Inc.Inventors: John R. Nottingham, John W. Patent number: 5474496Abstract: A coin bank which sorts coins and deposits them in containers is disclosed. A coin or a group of coins is dropped into a coin receiver. Each coin is removed one at a time from the coin receiver and dropped into a helical coin path by a motorized separator mechanism. The coins roll on edge along the coin path where they encounter apertures of varying sizes. When a coin encounters an aperture larger than its diameter, it falls out of the path to a container. A mechanical coin sensor mechanism is provided to start the separator when a coin is sensed in the coin receiver. The sensor mechanism also delays the shut-off of the motor when coins are no longer sensed in the coin receiver. The housing and most parts of the bank are transparent to permit viewing of the sensor mechanism and the coin path.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1993Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Inventor: Jerzy Perkitny

Patent number: 5181877Abstract: An apparatus for simulating a licking motion comprises a tongue disposed within a housing. The tongue is pivotally connected along one end to a main gear wheel and partially extends through an aperture formed in the housing. A motor and gear mechanism engage and rotate the main gear wheel in response to a control assembly. As the main gear wheel rotates, the tongue moves within the aperture at varying angles to simulate a licking motion.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1991Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: Those Characters From ClevelandInventor: Jerzy Perkitny

Patent number: 5122093Abstract: A coin bank for sorting and storing coins of various sizes is disclosed. The coin bank includes a coin receiver, a plurality of coin channels, a plurality of coin sorting apertures, a coin storage structure and a tilt motion mechanism. The tilt motion mechanism tilts the channels from side to side to cause coins deposited in said receiver to roll along a serpentine coin path defined by the coin channels. Coins encounter sorting apertures along the path. When coins reach a aperture corresponding in size, they fall into a coin storage structure. The coin channels are transparent so the interesting visual effect of coins traversing the coin path may be observed.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1990Date of Patent: June 16, 1992Assignee: Mag-Nif, Inc.Inventor: Jerzy Perkitny

Patent number: 4987990Abstract: A visually interesting coin sorter and bank receives a group of random coins in a coin receiving chamber and ejects the coins one-at-a-time to roll to the bottom of a rotatable transparent spiral elevator plate or wheel. The spiral wheel lifts the rolling coins toward the center of the wheel until caught by size restrictions in the spiral to be then moved through an arc and to drop through a proper slot to form sorted stacks of coins. The spiral wheel is driven through an electric motor which is automatically turned on as soon as one or more coins are dropped in the chamber. Aftet the last coin is sorted the motor is automatically turned off. A coin sensing lever in the coin receiving chamber releases a cycle timer to close a switch to start the motor. The rotating spiral wheel drives an ejector slide to eject the coins one-at-a-time from the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1989Date of Patent: January 29, 1991Assignee: Mag-Nif, Inc.Inventor: Jerzy Perkitny
