Patent number: 10889518Abstract: The present invention provides a use of an inorganic salt or acid capable of producing free phosphate or fluoride ion in reducing the hardness and/or alkalinity of a water system containing residual antiscalant. In the lab test, it is found that the addition of a suitable amount of sodium phosphate or sodium fluoride may induce alkalinity reduction as well as hardness reduction. The production efficiency can be enhanced since the scaling was relieved and heat exchange efficiency can be improved. Meanwhile, lower scaling stress also means lower antiscalant dosage and cost, and thus the total operation cost can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2017Date of Patent: January 12, 2021Assignee: ECOLAB USA INC.Inventors: Yue Ming Zhou, Jian Kun Shen, Yin Yin Tong, Ling Feng Han

Patent number: 9463073Abstract: A method is described for determining brain shift, such as the brain shift that occurs following a neurosurgical intervention. The method includes taking a first image of the brain of a subject, the first image showing the position of blood vessels in the brain relative to a reference position. A second image of the brain that has been acquired following an intervention on the subject is also taken. This second image has been acquired using computed tomography imaging apparatus. The second image shows the position of blood vessels in the brain relative to the reference position. Brain shift is then determined from the shift in position of the blood vessels in at least one region of interest of the brain, with respect to the reference position, between the first and second images. Corresponding apparatus is also described.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2011Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: RENISHAW (IRELAND) LIMITEDInventors: Steven Streatfield Gill, Jian-Kun Shen

Patent number: 9265259Abstract: The invention is directed to compositions and methods of their use as effective biocidal agents for water streams. The composition comprises a halogen source, halogen stabilizers containing a sulfur bearing species and ammonium salts/urea, and an alkali. The sulfur bearing species includes sulfamic acid or its salt equivalent. By having optimized mixing ratio of halogen to stabilizer and that of ammonium salts to sulfamic acid or sulfamate, a synergistic effect occurs which both increases the efficacy of the composition as a biocide and it avoids adverse impacts on other chemicals that are present in the water stream. Best of all the composition is easy to form and easy to introduce into a water stream of concern. Its introduction can be as simple as mixing two containers of reagent prior to introduction to the water process stream.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2011Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: NALCO COMPANYInventors: Wen Li Tu, Laura E. Rice, Andrew J. Cooper, Elisa M. Luth, Yu-mei Lu, Jian Kun Shen
