    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for a compressor having a variable inlet device and an active casing treatment. In one arrangement, a system for a compressor may include a casing forming a recirculation passage surrounding an inlet passage, an active casing treatment surrounding the inlet passage and configured to selectively control gas flow through the recirculation passage, an impeller, and a variable inlet device positioned in the inlet passage upstream of the impeller and configured to selectively reduce an effective size of the impeller. The variable inlet device and the active casing treatment may be adjusted based on operating conditions in order to increase a flow range of the compressor while providing high compressor efficiency.

    Abstract: A spring assembly is provided which decreases the fatigue and wear on the springs of the assembly. The spring assembly includes upper and lower pistons separated by a substantially incompressible fluid. The lower piston is attached to one or more springs. The surface area of the upper surface of the lower piston is greater than the surface area of the lower surface of the upper piston. As such, the springs are deflected by a distance less than the distance traveled by the upper piston. By decreasing the length the springs are compressed, the springs are subject to less fatigue and wear. As a result, the life span of the springs is increased and the maintenance required of the spring assembly is minimized relative to that of typical spring assemblies.

In one example, the noise mitigating device includes a set of perforated rings arranged in a recirculation passage of a compressor casing treatment. The rings of the set of perforated rings may be oriented so that apertures of one ring are offset from apertures of one or more adjacent rings, forcing air to flow through the apertures via a non-linear path while deflecting at least a portion of sounds waves generated in the compressor.
