  • Patent number: 4265157
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing sounds from one or more-time overlapg sequences of one or more electrical pulse signals having a frequency corresponding to the pitch of the sound to be produced from the signals holding the pulse width or pulse pause width in each sequence substantially constant for signals corresponding to a range of pitches of the sound to be produced. The pulse widths or pulse pause widths are then relatively abruptly changed over a short interval in pitch at the upper limit of the range. In this way, the shape of each pulse in a sequence and the phase between pulses in concurrent sequences which determine the timbre of the sound remains the same over the range of sounds to permit the method and apparatus to accurately duplicate the sounds of traditional musical instruments.

  • Patent number: 4196650
Abstract: An acoustic signal generator circuit produces electrical acoustic signals ose frequency spectrum and envelop curve respectively determine the acoustic parameters, pitch and timbre and, respectively, the change in amplitude with time and accordingly the volume, attack and decay phenomena and also quasi stationary behavior of the corresponding sound. There is a manually actuated control device for influencing at least one part of the acoustic parameters. The control device can be constructed in a manner similar to an accordion with a blow bellows and at least one keyboard.

  • Patent number: 4151368
Abstract: Imitation sounds of musical instruments, especially brass wind instruments, re synthesized by using a pulse generator source driving an AGC amplifier channel having an AGC amplifier and formant filters and a limiter, the gain of the AGC amplifier being multiplicatively controlled by an instantaneously-varying control AGC signal derived from the output of the channel. The AGC signal can also be varied at the AGC point by the signal from a breath-sensing microphone in a whistle or pipe.

  • Patent number: 4101840
Abstract: A volume control arrangement for an electro-acoustic system, said arranget having an adjustable amplification factor and a frequency characteristic dependent thereon, and comprising a frequency selective circuit which has an amplitude/frequency characteristic curve having at least one maximum lying within the audio frequency range and equivalent to the pass range of a band filter, and a circuit arrangement for varying the frequency and amplitude of the maximum in dependence on the adjustment of the amplification factor.

  • Patent number: 4085648
Abstract: Method and apparatus for synthesis or imitation of sounds of musical instents wherein the partial tone structure is a function of the volume or intensity impression to be effected with a listener, and controlled by controlling the relative content of signal contribution in the overall signal of component signals in such a manner that the timbre of the resulting sound will simulate that of softly played (piano) or loudly played (forte) sound; in a system, signal sources representing the signal components are relatively mixed, for example by a control volume control, and applied to an amplifier; or a signal now U.S. Pat. No. 4,064,482, Maisch et al. source generating a composite signal including all components is connected to a plurality of filters and subsequently connected amplifiers of controllable pass frequency and damping (amplification) characteristic to synthesize the timbre of piano, or forte music regardless of actual volume of output.
