  • Patent number: 5310267
Abstract: A bearing which can be used between two coaxial flywheels has an inner race, an outer race, one or more annuli of antifriction bearing elements between the two races, a metallic or plastic enclosure which surrounds the peripheral surface of the outer race and a portion of the internal surface of the inner race and has a wall extending along first axial ends of the races. The wall has an outwardly bulging pocket for confinement of lubricant in addition to that which is confined in the space between the inner and outer races. Such space is sealed at the second axial ends of the races by a ring which is installed between the two races or surrounds a portion of the peripheral surface of the outer race and sealingly engages the inner race.

  • Patent number: 5301780
Abstract: Apparatus for transmitting torque between the engine and the transmission of a motor vehicle has a first flywheel which receives torque from the engine, a second flywheel which receives torque from the first flywheel by way of one or more dampers and a disc and is at least partially encapsulated in the first flywheel in the axial direction of the flywheels, and a friction clutch which serves to couple the second flywheel with or to uncouple the second flywheel from the transmission. A substantial part of the clutch is also encapsulated into the first flywheel so that the dimensions of the apparatus in the axial direction of the flywheels are sufficiently small to warrant its use in motor vehicles with transversely extending engines and transmissions.

  • Patent number: 5273372
Abstract: Apparatus for damping vibrations between the output element of the engine and the power train in a motor vehicle has flywheels which are rotatable relative to each other. One flywheel is mounted on the output element of the engine and another flywheel is connectable to the power train by a friction clutch. Vibration dampers are installed between the flywheels, and such dampers are confined in a housing which is provided on the one flywheel and contains a supply of viscous fluid medium for the parts of the dampers. The housing is the input member of the dampers and the output member of the dampers is a flange which extends into the housing and is axially movably coupled to the other flywheel.

  • Patent number: 5257715
Abstract: The metallic portion of a multiple wrap brake band for use in automatic transmissions of motor vehicles is obtained by deforming a circular metallic blank at right angles to its plane into a cup-shaped preform. The bottom wall of the preform is separated from the annular wall and the annular wall is thinned, calibrated, cut, slotted and provided with actuating elements as well as slitted in the circumferential direction to form several neighboring wraps of the multiple wrap brake band. A prefabricated split ring-shaped brake lining is bonded to the internal surface of the annular wall prior to the formation of wraps.

  • Patent number: 5194044
Abstract: A torsional vibration damping apparatus which operates between the crankshaft of the engine and the input shaft of the transmission in a motor vehicle has two flywheels which are rotatable relative to each other against the opposition of one or more dampers installed in a fluid-containing chamber of the flywheel which is connected to the crankshaft. The chamber has one or two annular compartments for the coil springs of the damper or dampers, and such coil springs are caused to store energy by a flange which is connected to the flywheel that drives the input shaft of the transmission and by integral or separately produced stops of the flywheel which is connected with the crankshaft. The flange cooperates with the respective flywheel to form a flow restrictor which opposes the flow of fluid from and into the compartment or compartments of the chamber in response to expansion or contraction of the coil springs.

  • Patent number: 5194046
Abstract: A flywheel assembly has a first flywheel which is connectable to the output shaft of an internal combustion engine, and a coaxial second flywheel which is connectable with the input shaft of a variable-speed transmission in response to engagement of a friction clutch. The flywheels are rotatable relative to each other by deforming the coil springs of a first damper which substantially unassistedly offers a relatively small resistance to such rotation during an initial stage of angular movement of at least one flywheel in at least one direction from a neutral position relative to the other flywheel, and thereupon by deforming the coil springs of at least one second damper which offers a greater resistance to a further stage of angular movement of the at least one flywheel from the neutral position. The dampers compensate for fluctuations of torque which is transmitted between the engine and the transmission.

  • Patent number: 5146811
Abstract: Apparatus for damping vibrations between the crankshaft of the engine and the clutch plate of the friction clutch of a motor vehicle has a first flywheel which is driven by the crankshaft, a second flywheel which is rotatable relative to the first flywheel and can rotate the clutch plate, and a torque transmitting unit between the flywheels. The unit employs one or more dampers in an annular chamber of the first flywheel and a slip clutch on the other flywheel. • Patent number: 4426915
Abstract: A servomotor which actuates the throw-out device of a clutch, particularly in an automotive vehicle, has a piston which is reciprocable in a housing and is adapted to be coupled to a reciprocable motion transmitting rod for the throw-out device by a compensating device having cylindrical rollers which establish a motion transmitting connection between the piston and the rod as soon as the piston leaves its starting position in response to evacuation of air from the housing at one side of the piston. The rollers are automatically disengaged from the rod when the piston returns to its starting position so that the rod can be moved by the clutch in a first direction to compensate for wear upon the parts of the clutch or in a second direction to compensate for expansion of one or more friction discs in the clutch.

  • Patent number: 4383596
Abstract: A centrifugal-force friction clutch with a torque transmission dependent on the speed of rotation has a hub-shaped input part, a drum-shaped part to be driven, a clutch output centrifugal weights acting upon the drum-shaped part. In a first speed stage the weights are held back to prevent torque transmission, in a second speed stage, the torque increases at least substantially proportionally to the increase in centrifugal force and friction, and in a third speed stage, less torque is transmitted than is proportional to the centrifugal force and friction. Radially displaceable friction shoes are fixed with respect to the output and are movable radially outwardly by the weights to transmit torque, and means are provided for resiliently holding back radially outward movement of the friction shoes. The weights are tiltable relative to the friction shoes and are radially displaceable by centrifugal force with the friction shoes.
