Abstract: The invention relates to a method of preparing a varnish blanket. Instead of a proof being used for pre-location of required varnish-free zones on a blanket for blanked-out in-line varnishing in rotary presses, the zones required not to be varnished are transferred by means of a reference copy, and after physico-chemical pretreatment adapted to the surface properties of the blanket, to a blanket stuck to a support plate. In addition to polyvinyl alcohol copying layers or coatings sensitized by bichromate, wipe-on copying layers sensitized by diazo salts are suitable, a positive or negative original being copied by direct contact in known manner onto a blanket thus pretreated. The zones required not to be varnished can therefore be preformed by cutting out the top layer of the blanket.

Abstract: An arrangement for application of liquids, such as a coating unit for a printing press, with a liquid supply above the metering gap formed between a metering roller and an applicator roller interacting therewith, a partition designed to damp vibrations dividing the liquid supply along the length of the rollers in order to compensate for turbulence, resonance and irregular air occlusions as far as the metering gap and to prepare uniform quantities of liquid.

Abstract: To provide for compact construction with minimum components, and permit application of two prime prints and one verso print, a chain transport system (9, 14, 15) is carried over the rubber blanket cylinder (7) applying the second prime printing. The sheet is fed between two blanket cylinders (3, 5) applying, respectively, verso and a first prime printing, held by grippers on the verso blanket cylinder and transferred to grippers (15) on the chain for transfer to a delivery station (10) or a further printing station (FIG. 2: 13), for example by use of a further transport drum (12) for proper positioning of the sheet.
