  • Patent number: 11017107
Abstract: A security assessment system of a computing resource service provider performs security analyses of virtual resource instances, such as virtual machine instances and virtual data store instances, to verify that certain invariable security requirements are satisfied by the instances' corresponding configurations; these analyses are performed before the instances are provisioned and deployed. If the security checks, which can be selected by the administrator of the resources, fail, the requested resources are denied deployment. Notifications identifying the faulty configuration(s) may be send to the administrative user. A template for launching virtual resource instances may be transformed into an optimized template for performing the pre-deployment security checks, such as by storing information needed to perform the checks within the optimized template itself.

  • Patent number: 10922423
Abstract: A security policy analyzer service of a computing resource service provider performs evaluations of security policies provided by the service provider's users, to determine whether the security policies are valid, satisfiable, accurate, and/or sufficiently secure. The service may compare the user-provided policy to a stored or best-practices policy to begin the evaluation, translating encoded security permissions into propositional logic formulae that can be compared to determine which policy is more permissive. The service determines values of the parameters in a request for access to a computing resource based on the policy comparison, and generates request contexts using the values. The service uses the request contexts to generate one or more comparative policies that are then used iteratively as the second policy in the comparison to the user-provided policy, in order to produce additional request contexts that represent allow/deny “edge cases” along the borders of policy permission statements.

  • Publication number: 20200366707
Abstract: Security policies may be utilized to grant or deny permissions related to the access of computing resources. Two or more security policies may be compared to determine whether the policies are equivalent, whether one security is more permissive than another, and more. In some cases, it may be possible to identify whether there exists a security permission that is sufficient to determine two security policies lack equivalency. Propositional logics may be utilized in the evaluation of security policies.

  • Patent number: 10769250
Abstract: Techniques for targeted security monitoring using semantic behavioral change analysis are described. A mutation monitor can use a code repository to generate a build of a software project prior to a code commit and another build after the code commit. An instruction-difference between the builds can be generated and used to perform a change impact analysis to identify control-flow and data dependencies changed as a result of the code commit. A semantic difference can be generated by annotating a syntactic difference for the code commit based on the identified control-flow and data dependency changes to allow for the behavioral changes to be easily shown to a user. Security impact analysis can be performed on parts of the software impacted by the code commit to quickly determine the security impacts introduced by the code commit.

  • Patent number: 10748743
Abstract: A method of operating a charged particle beam device is disclosed, including passing each of a plurality of beamlets through a deflector and a scanner, in that order. Each of the beamlets is focused with an objective lens on a sample to form a plurality of focal spots, forming an array. A first beamlet is focused on a first spot and a second beamlet is focused on a second spot. In a centered configuration of the device, each of the plurality of beamlets is directed by the deflector toward a coma free point. In a beamlet-displaced configuration of the device, the scanner is scanned such that the first beamlet passes through an acceptable aberrations point, the first beamlet scanning a displaced first field of view; and the first spot is displaced from the regular first focal spot to a displaced first focal spot.

  • Patent number: 10734649
Abstract: A synthetic metal dichalcogenide having a highly defected nanocrystalline layered structure, wherein layer spacing is larger than in perfect crystals of the same material, wherein the defected structure provides access to interlayer crystals of the same material, and wherein the defected structure facilitates a pseudocapacitive charge storage mechanism. The metal dichalcogenide is receptive to intercalation of ions such as Li ions, Na ions, Mg ions, and Ca ions, and does not undergo a phase transition upon intercalation of Li ions, Na ions, Mg ions, or Ca ions. The metal dichalcogenide can be used, for example, as a component of an electrode that also includes a carbon derivative, and a binder, which are intermixed to form the electrode. The resultant composite electrode is highly porous and highly electronically conductive, and is suitable for use in devices such as symmetric capacitors, asymmetric capacitors, rocking chair batteries, and other devices.

  • Patent number: 10668385
Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards protecting against polymorphic cheat codes in a video game environment. A detour analyzer analyzes game code in client memory for possible hooks to parasite code. For each detected hook to parasite code, hook and/or parasite information is determined to generate a hook/parasite signatures, which are sent to a remote network device. Based on the hook/parasite signatures a weighted combination of scores are generated that is useable to determine a probability value that the parasite code is cheat code. If the determined probability value indicates cheat code, the user of the client device may be banned from future game play. Additionally, the hook/parasite signature information may be used to update the data store to detect polymorphic changes in the cheat code.
