Patent number: 5922312Abstract: A hair care composition comprising: (a) from about 0.01 to about 3% by weight of gelling agent comprising a copolymer of methyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride, cross-linked with C.sub.4 -C.sub.16 alkadiene of hydrolysis products thereof; (b) from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of hair fixative copolymer comprising a cationic copolymer of nonionic cellulose and diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride; and the balance comprising a carrier suitable for application to hair. The liquid hair cosmetic products have an improved non-tacky on-hair and on-hand feel, demonstrate excellent hair styling benefits in addition to ease of brush-out.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Stevan David Jones, Philip John Marchant

Patent number: 5203504Abstract: A method of preparing a mixture of a carrier liquid and an active liquid in required proportion including: providing a flow of carrier liquid, controlling a liquid flow to an appropriate portion of the carrier liquid flow from pressure drop measurements of the proportional liquid flow, displacing active liquid with the proportional liquid flow without liquid contact, and including the displaced active liquid in the carrier liquid flow, thereby producing a liquid mixture in the required proportion without a flow meter. The mixed liquid may be used in at least one of a sprayer and a nutrient film equipment. The displacement medium may be provided from the carrier liquid supply.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1991Date of Patent: April 20, 1993Assignee: British Technology Group LimitedInventors: Andrew R. Frost, John A. Marchant

Patent number: 4735364Abstract: A spray head for a spray nozzle including a hood providing a surface extending forward from the nozzle and also supporting insulating mountings for electrodes energizable to exert an inductive charging field or spray from the nozzle. The surface is earthed or earthy in operation to encourage collection of stray or return spray and stop stray or return spray affecting the charging field by landing on the electrodes or their mountings. The collected spray may be retained as liquid or caused to flow to projections to again leave the spray head as small droplets. The field from the electrodes may shape the spray.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1986Date of Patent: April 5, 1988Assignee: National Research Development CorporationInventor: John A. Marchant

Patent number: 4579279Abstract: A sprayer, particularly for hand-held or vehicle-borne agricultural use, has a rotatable sprayhead having a liquid dispersing surface in the form of disc, dish or cup, a rotatable electrode spaced from the outer edge of said surface by a gap, means for supplying liquid to the liquid dispersing surface, connections for the poles of a source of electrostatic potential to apply one pole of the source to the electrode and to apply the other pole of the source to at least the outer edge of the surface to apply the potential of the source across the gap, and means to rotate the surface and the electrode to disperse liquid supplied to the surface as a charged spray. The potential may be applied to the outer edge via the liquid if conductive or via a suitable conductive path in the sprayhead.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1984Date of Patent: April 1, 1986Assignee: National Research Development CorporationInventor: John A. Patent number: 4489894Abstract: A spraying apparatus to deliver inductively charged spray, for example to crops. The apparatus includes a spray head and electrodes to apply a potential difference in the region of the spray head to charge spray. An aspirating means is arranged to remove liquid deposited on an electrode to reduce interference with the charging process. When the spray liquid is to be at high potential in the apparatus a long high resistivity supply tube may be provided. The aspirating means may be operated by spray liquid bled from a pressurized supply spray liquid.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: National Research Development CorporationInventors: John A.
