  • Publication number: 20140185920
Abstract: A method, process, and associated systems for automatically selecting and masking areas of a still image or video clip using imported depth information. An image-editing or video-editing application receives a set of depth values that are each associated with an area of a still image or video frame. Each depth value identifies the distance from the camera position of an object depicted by the area associated with the depth value. When a user directs the application to automatically select or mask a region of the image or frame, the application uses the depth values to automatically choose which pixels to include in the selection or mask such that the selection or mask best approximates an area of the image or frame that represents a three-dimensional object.

  • Patent number: 8736450
Abstract: An apparatus to deter theft of a movable product is provided. In one aspect, the apparatus comprises a housing, a plug connected to the housing to insert into an electrical socket to receive power, a bracket connected to the housing and having an opening to receive a locking cable while the opening of the bracket protrudes from the housing. A switch, within the housing, responsive to protrusion of the opening of the bracket from the housing to receive the locking cable. An electrical circuitry, within the housing, responsive to the switch being in a first state, and absence of power at the plug to sound an alarm, and responsive to the switch being in a second state or the presence of power at the plug to prevent sounding of the alarm.

  • Publication number: 20140108906
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method, computer program product, and system for displaying tabular data. A computing device identifies a plurality of data elements organized in a first plurality of rows and a first plurality of columns, wherein the first plurality of rows and the first plurality of columns are at least partially displayed. The computing device receives a data selection spanning an entire row or an entire column included in the first plurality of rows or the first plurality of columns. The computing device, in response to receiving the data selection spanning an entire row or an entire column included in the first plurality of rows or the first plurality of columns, determines a statistical relationship included in the data selection. The computing device, in response to determining the statistical relationship, displays at least a portion of the data selection.

  • Publication number: 20130335223
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system of deterring theft of an electronic device connected to an external source of charging power. In one aspect, responsive to a user request to arm the electronic device and the electronic device being connected to the source of charging power, the electronic device arming the electronic device. In another aspect, while the electronic device is armed, the electronic device detecting loss of the connection to the source of charging power, and in response, the electronic device activating an alarm or notifying another computing device that the connection of the electronic device has been disconnected from the source of charging power.

  • Patent number: 8543836
Abstract: In a method for controlling access to an encrypted document, a request to access the encrypted document is received. The access request includes a user ID and a user password. A one-way hash function is performed on the user password to generate a hash value. An access control table is searched for the hash value which indicates an authorization for the user to access the encrypted document. The hash value corresponds to a document password encrypted with the user password. The document password is decrypted using the user password. The encrypted document is decrypted using the decrypted document password.

  • Publication number: 20130116850
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to an approach for moving (e.g., lifting and lowering) objects (e.g., structures, cars, etc.) to generate and store energy to address energy shortage conditions. Specifically, the weight of an object is utilized to accumulate potential energy over a period of time through conversion of a source of energy (e.g. electricity) into potential energy when available power (i.e. supply) from the source of energy exceeds demand (e.g., an energy surplus condition is identified). This potential energy is then converted into another form of energy (e.g. electricity) over a period of time when excess power is needed (e.g., an energy shortage condition is identified).

  • Patent number: 6266589
Abstract: A motor vehicle safety system determines the state of automotive electronic devices as a function of speed to minimize potential distractions to the driver. Vehicle speed data is supplied to a rules based system which applies rules to determine what functions, at a given speed, within the respective electronic devices are available.

  • Patent number: 6215480
Abstract: A computer dynamic cylindrical display provides a natural scrolling capability, giving the appearance of a much larger display in a very small size. The display encloses the electronics of the device and contains a simple weighted cam that senses roll (using rotation sensor much like in a mouse). When the cylinder is placed on a flat surface and rolled up and down, the pixel display scrolls in correspondence with the rolling movement, giving the visual feel of rolling a cylindrical magnifying glass across a finely printed document. A “snap-to” scrolling algorithm makes it easier for the user to stop right on the center of a line of text. Parallax algorithms compensate for the cylindrically wrapped text making it appear flatter. Twisting the cap adjusts the angle of presentation for when the user is not looking straight down onto the display. A touch sensitive overlay allows the user to select menu items or hypertext links as the display “rolls over” that line of text.
