  • Patent number: 7156254
Abstract: Steel and plastic drums are utilized in many industries for transporting and storing various liquids which may be utilized as fuels, lubricants, ingredients, process fluids, or the like. Often the liquids transported and stored in such drums are highly caustic and/or hazardous and absolute containment during storage, transport, and handling are essential. For example in the semiconductor industry, caustic chemicals such as hydrofluoric acid are commonplace. Some liquids develop significant internal gas pressures when contained during storage. Such pressures must be periodically vented. Even when drums with such hazardous and caustic liquids are on site and ready for use, great care must be taken in accessing the liquids so as not to expose personnel or the environment to such chemicals.

  • Publication number: 20060283932
Abstract: A fluid containment and dispensing system having a RFID tag associated therewith. The fluid containment and dispensing system includes a fluid containment drum having an opening defined thereon. The fluid containment and dispensing system further includes a dispensing mechanism operably coupleable with the opening, the dispensing mechanism configured to dispense the contents of the fluid containment drum. An identification tag is coupleable with the dispensing mechanism and includes a first laminate, a second laminate laminated to the first laminate, and a RFID member disposed between the first and second laminates, wherein the RFID member includes information associated with a fluid containment and dispensing system.

  • Publication number: 20060243755
Abstract: A fluid dispense system for use with a drum having a drum insert configured to couple with a bung included on a drum, the drum insert having an upper portion and a drum insert down tube extending therefrom into an interior of the drum. The system further having a dispense head configured to couple with the drum insert, the dispense head having first and second conduits, each having a valve assembly, the valve assemblies in operable communication with the drum insert when the dispense head is coupled with the drum insert. When the dispense head is coupled with the drum insert the first and second valve assemblies are effected to an open position enabling fluid to flow through the conduits. When the dispense head is not coupled with the drum insert the first and second valve assemblies are biased to a closed position inhibiting fluid from flowing through the conduits.

  • Publication number: 20060225812
Abstract: The drum cap venting device generally includes a venting cap assembly. The venting cap assembly can include a venting cap and a venting key. The venting cap generally includes a main body portion, a valve portion and a ring portion. The venting key generally includes a key body portion and a venting tube. The venting key is rotatably engageable with the valve portion of the venting cap such that rotation of the key provides a passageway of continuous fluid communication from the drum, through conduits in the venting cap, and out the venting tube of the venting key. As a result, any release or evacuation of pressurized gasses from the drum is directed away from the user to a safe area or device.

  • Publication number: 20060108371
Abstract: A molded drum having a first end with an access opening defined thereon and a second end generally opposed the first end, and a peripheral wall extending between the first end and second end, the first end, second end, and peripheral wall generally defining a drum interior. The drum further having a chime extending from the first end of the drum, the chime including a base section having a chime transition portion and an upper section extending from the base section, the base section having a base thickness greater than a thickness of the upper section, such that a bending region is defined proximate an intersection of the base and upper sections. The chime having a bending length that is defined between a top edge of the chime and the bending region, the bending length being selected such that the bending length is less than a distance between the chime and the access opening.

  • Patent number: 5108015
Abstract: A coupling connecting an array of tubes to a barrel and a plurality of flow courses in the barrel, the coupling having a head with multiple flow passages and a bung with multiple flow passages and interfitting with the head portion to form sealed annular flow passages connecting selected passages in the head and bung, regardless of the relative orientations of the bung and head when assembled, the circular interfitting portions having radial seals to isolate the flow passages; and a rotatable code ring on the head to fit with a stationary code ring on the bung.
