  • Publication number: 20240016471
Abstract: The invention relates to a medical system comprising a tool including: a body; a location measurement device adapted to emit an ultrasound location signal and receive a reflected location signal; a location processing device adapted to compare each of the echoes of the reflected location signal to a pre-determined location threshold, emit an information signal if no target location echo corresponding to the interface between first and second anatomical structures has been identified within an analysis time window, the target location echo having an amplitude that exceeds the location threshold.

  • Patent number: 8439977
Abstract: A spinal spacer for engagement between vertebrae includes a body extending between a substantially contoured first end surface and a second end surface to define side surfaces and opposing top and bottom vertebral engaging surfaces substantially symmetrical about a centerline axis. At least one opening defines a hollow inner body and includes first and second intersecting openings extending through the top and bottom vertebral engaging surfaces. The second intersecting opening extends through the side surfaces. The second end surface includes at least one aperture formed therethrough in communication with the hollow inner body. A screw opening is defined through at least one plate insert configured to be removably coupled to the second end surface to substantially align the screw opening with the at least one aperture. The bone screw is configured to be threadingly secured within the at least one plate insert.

  • Patent number: 7182726
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of applying low dose, localized radiotherapy which is effective to reduce or eliminate the formation of post-operative scar tissue at surgical sites, such as an epidural site after spinal surgery. In an exemplary embodiment, a device is implantable before closing a surgical site as a barrier, the device being designed to deliver a desired therapeutic amount of energy to particular tissue. The device can be a barrier layer, seed containment unit, radiospike, or catheter. The energy may be provided by the material of the device itself, or may be provided by an external source, such as by circulating radioactive fluid through the device itself. Various embodiments include additional components of the device which deliver drug or chemical agents to targeted tissue and/or shield components to prevent dosage to non-targeted tissue.
