Abstract: 3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxyphenylalkyl substituted piperazine diones are stabilizers for synthetic polymeric materials normally subject to deterioration caused by ultraviolet light. The compounds are prepared by the alkylation reaction between a substituted piperazine dione and 3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxyphenyl-alkyl halide. Polymeric compositions containing these stabilizers may also contain a hindered phenolic compound. A typical embodiment is 15-(3',5'-di-t-butyl-4'-hydroxybenzyl)(7,15-diazadispiro[5,1,5,3]hexadecan e-14,16-dione).

Abstract: Piperidyl esters of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, oxyl alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, alkoxy-alkyl, aralkyl or lower acyl and n is 2 or 3, and when n is 2, R.sub.3 is a diacyl of 36 carbons and when n is 3, R.sub.3 is a triacyl of 37 to 54 carbons. These compounds are useful as light stabilizers of polymeric materials.
