  • Patent number: 9249742
Abstract: A stop/start vehicle includes an engine and a stop/start system that selectively prevents an auto stop or auto start of the engine in response to a detected vehicle proximity and direction of travel relative to an emergency vehicle. The stop/start system may be programmed to prevent an auto stop of the engine in response to a detected proximity to an emergency vehicle where the emergency vehicle is traveling in the same direction as the stop/start vehicle, or in response to a detected proximity to an emergency vehicle where the stop/start vehicle is located within an intersection. The stop start system may also be programmed to prevent an auto start of the engine in response to the engine being stopped, and further in response to a detected proximity to an emergency vehicle where the emergency vehicle is traveling in cross traffic relative to the stop/start vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8717187
Abstract: A solar powered device and a method of operating such a device to allow it to receive and store information about its physical location, from which it can determine the minimum expected solar energy levels that will be available to it. Based on the minimum expected levels, the device then limits its configurable settings to preferably enable only those configurations having maximum energy demands that can be met or exceeded by the minimum expected energy levels.

  • Patent number: 8425076
Abstract: A solar-powered airfield light provides high angle light up to about 90°. A solar panel is mounted atop the enclosure but does not overlie a curved transparent shoulder extending upward from the transparent generally cylindrical side walls of the enclosure. An optical element within the enclosure surrounds an LED light source so as to direct light emanating from the LED in two preferential beams, one directed to the shoulder and the other directed to the side walls. A portion of the light impinging on the curved shoulder is redirected to high angles to comply with high angle light requirements for airfield lights.

  • Patent number: 7444515
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus based on Bloom filters for detecting predefined signatures (a string of bytes) in a network packet payload. A Bloom filter is a data structure for representing a set of strings in order to support membership queries. Hardware Bloom filters isolate all packets that potentially contain predefined signatures. Another independent process eliminates false positives produced by the Bloom filters. The system is implemented on a FPGA platform, resulting in a set of 10,000 strings being scanned in the network data at the line speed of 2.4 Gbps.

  • Patent number: 7119361
Abstract: A porous silicon structure is stabilized by anodically oxidizing the structure and then subjecting it to chemical functionalization to protect non-oxidized surface regions, preferably in the presence of 1-decene under thermal conditions. This process creates a protective organic monolayer on the surface of the structure, rendering it highly stable.
