  • Patent number: 7182229
Abstract: A device for dispensing a liquid includes a dispenser body having a liquid passage and an air passage. A valve stem is mounted in the dispenser body and reciprocates between an open position allowing liquid flow and a closed position preventing liquid flow. A pre-assembled unitary seal assembly is threadably engaged with the dispenser body and includes a housing having a bore therethrough. The housing includes a first and second seal members positioned within the bore that each form a dynamic seal with the valve stem to prevent air and liquid from leaking out of the air and liquid passages. The housing further includes a static seal between the outside of the housing and the dispenser body. The valve stem may be moved to an open position by pressurized air acting on a piston and moved to the closed position by a spring-return mechanism to selectively dispense the liquid.

  • Patent number: 7121479
Abstract: A system for dispensing liquid material with different configurations of air assisted fiberization or filament movement (e.g., meltblowing, controlled fiberization). In particular, front access for mounting a selected nozzle only requires adjustment of one lever and one fastener. Features of the lever and nozzle allow assisted ejection of the nozzle, even when the nozzle has become adhered to a die body through use. In addition, a nozzle mounting surface of the die body provides a universal interface to the various types of nozzles. An air cavity in the die body and air troughs in selected types of nozzles balance and adjust air flow.

  • Patent number: 6582518
Abstract: A guide system and method for positioning an elongated strand in a liquid dispensing environment. The guide system includes a guide mechanism for supporting and guiding the strand in alignment with a dispensing outlet of a liquid dispenser. The guide mechanism is adjustable along three orthogonal axes. A bead of liquid material is dispensed from the dispensing outlet that is fully or at least partially captured on the strand.

  • Patent number: 6149076
Abstract: A liquid dispensing apparatus for dispensing heated liquid, such as hot melt adhesive, onto a substrate includes a dispenser body with a liquid dispensing nozzle portion which has a liquid discharge passage and outlet communicating with the dispenser body. An air cap is mounted to the dispenser body and has an opening to receive the liquid discharge outlet of the nozzle portion. The air cap has an air discharge passage for directing air onto the heated liquid as it exits the liquid discharge outlet. The air discharge passage is thermally isolated from the liquid discharge passage to allow the use of air which is substantially cooler than the heated liquid.

  • Patent number: 6089413
Abstract: A liquid dispensing module for alternately dispensing and recirculating liquid including a module body having a valve stem mounted for reciprocating movement within a main passage of the body. The valve stem includes first and second valve members for respectively engaging first and second valve seats in the main passage. A recirculation passage communicates with the main passage. When the valve stem is in a dispensing position, liquid is prevented from flowing into the recirculation passage and instead flows out of one end of the module. However, when the valve stem is in a recirculation position, liquid is prevented from flowing out of the module and instead enters the recirculation passage where it may flow back to a main pump or supply in a recirculation loop. Apparatus and methods incorporating the liquid dispensing module are further described and encompass similar concepts.

  • Patent number: 5740963
Abstract: A slot nozzle die for use with a coating dispenser includes a first die body having a tapered projection and a deflectable tab member horizontally spaced from the tapered projection to define a die seat therebetween. A second die body having a tapered projection is slidably received in the die seat formed in the first die body. The tapered projections of the first and second die bodies define an extrusion slot therebetween which receives coating material from the coating dispenser. A pair of air blocks are respectively mounted to lower ends of each die body to define a pair of air channels disposed at an angle relative to the extrusion slot. One of the air blocks is slidably received intermediate the deflectable tab member and the tapered projection of the second die body and cooperates with the deflectable tab member for translating the tapered projection of the second die body toward the tapered projection of the first die body to seal the first and second die bodies.
