Patent number: 5333779Abstract: A paperboard flat blank is scored for folding to form a container sleeve. The flat blank comprises at least first and second flat blank portions which have been sealed together along a seal line or lines to form the entire, flat blank. The majority of the area of each flat blank portion is free of contact with the other flat blank portion, i.e., the respective portions are not separate layers of a flat blank, but are separate, spaced portions thereof, connected together by one or more seal lines. The first flat blank portion exhibits at least one physical property that is different from the corresponding physical property of the second flat blank portion, other than the scoring and the shape and size in the plane of the flat blank. For example, one flat blank may be made of recycled material and the other of virgin material. The two flat blanks may have different thicknesses, or differing surface treatment, one being impregnated with oil or plastic and the other being free of such impregnation, or the like.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1993Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: Field Container Company, L.P.Inventors: John M. Patent number: 5167325Abstract: A carrier for containers comprises a folded, generally stiff sheet, such as cardboard, defining a top wall, side walls, and a bottom wall. The carrier further defines apertures in the top wall for receiving the containers, with at least portions of the containers being positioned between the side walls. In accordance with this invention, the top wall defines a central, double-layered, integral handle portion of the folded sheet projecting outwardly from the remainder of the top wall. An inner sheet is positioned along the underside of the top wall and is attached to the folded sheet, to hold the handle portion in its outwardly projecting position.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Assignee: Field Container Company, L.P.Inventor: John M. Patent number: 5156266Abstract: A foldable, flat sheet is assemblable into a container by folding and sealing together of peripheral tab portions of the sheet. By this invention, at least one of the peripheral tab portions defines a central portion having aperture means proportioned to permit viewing through the aperture means with both eyes when the central portion is placed close to a normal human face. A colored, transparent sheet is sealed to the central portion covering the aperture means. The one peripheral tab portion also defines a pair of lateral portions of the foldable sheet which are attached to opposed sides of the central portion. The lateral portions comprise temple bar means of a pair of dark glasses, which dark glasses are defined by central and lateral portions upon their separation from the rest of the flat sheet.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1990Date of Patent: October 20, 1992Assignee: Field Container CorporationInventor: John M. Patent number: 4304355Abstract: A knock-down container assembly for packaging and containing ice-cream products wherein an articulated carton portion cooperates with an articulated cover portion through closure features which effectively lock the cover portion in place on top of the carton portion. Various protuberances or locking flaps in the carton portion cooperate with recesses or notched regions in the cover portion respectively to provide these locking features. The carton itself is constructed to contain either a standardized half-gallon volume of ice-cream products and is especially adapted for utilization on standard existing ice-cream product packing machinery.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1981Date of Patent: December 8, 1981Assignee: Field Container Corp.Inventor: John M. Patent number: 4258875Abstract: A knock-down container assembly for packaging and containing ice-cream products wherein an articulated carton portion co-operates with an articulated cover portion through closure features which effectively lock the cover portion in place on top of the carton portion. Various protuberances or locking flaps in the carton portion co-operate with recesses or notched regions in the cover portion respectively to provide these locking features. The carton itself is constructed to contain either a standardized half-gallon volume of ice-cream products or, alternatively, is capable of containing a one-quart volume of such products, and the container is especially adapted for utilization on standard existing ice-cream product packing machinery.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1979Date of Patent: March 31, 1981Assignee: Field Container Corp.Inventor: John M. Patent number: 4185767Abstract: An ornamental package structure for packaging a product is formed of resilient semi-rigid sheet stock and includes a container portion for the product and a closure portion comprising a plurality of top flaps joined to the closure portion along substantially horizontal fold lines. Each of the top flaps has an ornamentation tab projecting upwardly from the outer edge of the top of the flap from one side of the approximate center thereof. The top flaps are folded inwardly to a substantially horizontal position for closing the top of the package with a part of each top flap and the ornamentation tab projecting therefrom overlying the next adjacent top flap, wherein the projection ornamentation tabs provide ornamentation for the closed top of the package and wherein side edges of the projecting ornamentation tabs extend from substantially the center of the closed top of the package. The ornamentation is substantially three-dimensional and attractive and, preferably, represents a ribbon bow.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1978Date of Patent: January 29, 1980Assignees: Field Container Corporation, Mogen David Wine CorporationInventors: John M.
