  • Patent number: 5025085
Abstract: The present invention relates to a curable composition comprising:(A) at least one aminoplast resin; and(B) an amount effective to cure the composition of at least one catalyst which is a sulfo acid, or an anhydride, ester, ammonium salt or metal salt of the acid. The sulfo acid can be exemplified by sulfonic acids, such as 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid, or a reaction product of the sulfonic acid and a phosphorus acid or salt, such as a dihydrocarbyl phosphorodithioic acid. The catalyst allows curing of aminoplast resins to be accomplished at low temperatures, while imparting a high degree of water resistance to the cured coating.

  • Patent number: 5017230
Abstract: Asphalt additive compositions are described which comprise (A) a metallic organic strength improving compound and (B) an anti-strip compound. The metal of said metallic organic compound is selected from the group consisting of manganese, cobalt, copper, vanadium, molybdenum, cerium, iron, nickel, lead, zirconium, barium, calcium and zinc. The preferred metal is manganese. The anti-strip compound is designed to reduce water-induced damage to asphalt paving mixtures.

  • Patent number: 4443577
Abstract: A composition comprising: (A) a non-Newtonian colloidal disperse system comprising (1) solid metal-containing colloidal particles predispersed in (2) a disperse medium of at least one inert organic liquid and (3) as an essential third component at least one member selected from the class consisting of organic compounds which are substantially soluble in said disperse medium, the molecules of said organic compound being characterized by polar substituents and hydrophobic portions; and (B) an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer.

  • Patent number: 4436855
Abstract: The present invention contemplates the provision of two-component urethane coating compositions comprising a first component comprising an organic polyfunctional isocyanate, and a second component comprising an acidic ester of a phosphoric acid, the alcohol portions of said acidic acid being selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyloxy and hydroxy-substituted hydrocarbyloxy compounds, such compositions providing enhanced corrosion resistance properties as well as improved flame retardency and metal adhesion characteristics over the two-component urethane systems of the prior art. An essential ingredient in the compositions of the invention is a non-Newtonian colloidal disperse system which can be provided with either the first component and/or the second component parts of the compositions of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4297399
Abstract: A composition and process for improving the curing of concrete, the composition comprising a Singapore dammar resin dissolved in an organic solvent. In a preferred embodiment of this invention, the resin-solvent solution is dispersed in a water-based emulsion by the use of an appropriate emulsifying agent. A preferred organic solvent is mineral spirits, and preferably the organic solvent contains a low enough level of photochemically reactive liquids to meet air pollution requirements such as Los Angeles Rule 66.
