  • Patent number: 11334120
Abstract: An information handling system kickstand hinge with a minimum profile transitions a kickstand between extended and retract positions with a first axle of a stand member that slides between forward and rear positions within guides or a rail housing and a second axle of the stand member that couples to the rail housing with riser arms disposed on opposing sides of the stand member. A first torque engine integrated in the riser housing resists sliding motion of a torque member engages with the first axle. A second torque engine integrated in the stand member resists rotation about the second axle. A spring aligned with the torque member biases the stand member towards the extended position to aid in extension of the kickstand from the retracted position.

  • Patent number: 11320876
Abstract: A portable information handling system housing has a handle to aid an end user in carrying of the system. A heat pipe loop passes through the handle and couples to a processing component heat sink to transfer excess thermal energy from within the housing to the handle for rejection to the ambient environment. Thermal wax disposed in the handle stores energy with a phase change from a solid to a liquid state. A color indicator disposed on the handle provides an end user with an indication of a temperature of the handle.

  • Publication number: 20220131105
Abstract: A portable information handling system presents visual images in a tablet configuration having a housing in a closed position by passing the visual images through a switchable film having a transparent state and out an upper surface of housing. The housing opens to a clamshell configuration to expose the display at the inner housing surface and presents display visual images against an opaque state of the switchable film. A graphics processor or timing controller adjusts the visual image orientation based upon whether the display is viewed from the inner surface or outer surface.

  • Publication number: 20220107684
Abstract: A portable information handling system rotates a lid housing portion integrating a display from a closed to an open position with a motorized hinge. One or more sensors monitor an end user position during the rotating from the closed to the open position so that the motorized hinge aligns the display with a desired viewing position relative to the end user, such as substantially perpendicular to the end user's gaze. The one or more sensors monitor the end user during usage of the information handling system to adjust the motorized hinge as the end user's position changes relative to the display over time.

  • Patent number: 11276371
Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying and correcting illumination sources are described. In some embodiments, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the IHS to: receive a measurement from an Ambient Light Sensor (ALS); determine that the measurement indicates an increase in ambient illumination equal to or greater than a threshold value; in response to the determination, receive an image from a charge-coupled device (CCD) sensor; extract illumination data from the image; and adjust the measurement in response to the illumination data.

  • Patent number: 11262822
Abstract: A portable information handling system rejects excess thermal energy from within a housing by blowing a cooling airflow with a cooling fan across first and second sets of cooling fins and out an exhaust. The cooling fan has an upper and lower intake and moves vertically within the housing to adjust spacing at the upper intake. The cooling fan exhaust couples to one of the sets of cooling fins to exhaust across both sets of cooling fins when interleaved and the one set of cooling fins when spacing at the upper cooling fan intake increases.

  • Patent number: 11262820
Abstract: A portable information handling system manages thermal conditions of an external surface based upon context that indicates user presence versus use in a standalone mode, such as based upon movements sensed by an accelerometer, touches sensed by a capacitive sensor, and the rotational orientation of the system housing. In one embodiment, a motorized hinge varies a time to close the housing so that the housing external surface cools sufficiently for an end user touch. A color coded light illuminates that the housing to provide the end user a visual indication of the housing temperature.

  • Patent number: 11262807
Abstract: A piezoelectric speaker fits in a cavity of a portable information handling system covered by a transparent cover that defines a speaker chamber within the cavity. The transparent cover integrates wirelines that align power pads with power contacts of the speaker to communicate audible information that generates sounds. In one embodiment, the transparent cover integrates a liquid crystal display that presents visual images associated with generated sound and backlit with illumination provided from the cavity.

  • Patent number: 11262821
Abstract: A portable information handling system rejects excess thermal energy from within a housing by blowing a cooling airflow with a cooling fan across first and second sets of cooling fins and out an exhaust. The cooling fins have an interleaved position with higher impedance and a separated position with a lower impedance that can increase cooling airflow. In one example embodiment, a central processing unit couples to a first circuit board and the first set of cooling fins and a graphics processor couples to a second circuit board and the second set of cooling fins so that movement of the circuit boards moves the cooling fins between the interleaved and separated positions.

  • Patent number: 11234428
Abstract: In some implementations, a computing device may receive a notification from a pest detector. In response, the computing device may initiate execution of a software application and display a user interface. The user interface may enable playback of the notification, such as displaying a photograph of a pest or playing back audio of noise made by the pest. The user interface may display a floor plan of a building along with a location of the pest detector and additional locations of additional pest detectors located in the building superimposed on the floor plan. The user interface may enable selecting a particular building of multiple buildings, a particular floor of multiple floors, or a particular room of multiple rooms. The user interface may display where pests have been detected superimposed on the floor plan.

  • Patent number: 11234429
Abstract: In some implementations, a pest detector may receive sensor data from a sensor. The pest detector may determine, using a machine learning algorithm, that the sensor data indicates a presence of a first type of pest. The pest detector may send a notification message, including at least a portion of the sensor data, to a computing device and visually indicate that the first type of pest was detected using an indicator. The pest detector may receive an update to the machine learning algorithm from a server and install the update to create an updated machine learning algorithm. The pest detector may receive second sensor data and determine, using the updated machine learning algorithm, that the second sensor data indicates the presence of a second type of pest that is not recognized by the machine learning algorithm.

  • Patent number: 11234427
Abstract: In some implementations, a server may receive sensor data from a plurality of detectors, including receiving first sensor data from a first detector and second sensor data from a second detector. The server may use the sensor data to retrain a detector-based machine learning algorithm to create an updated detector-based machine learning algorithm. The server may send the updated detector-based machine learning algorithm to the first detector and the second detector. For example, the updated machine learning algorithm may be trained to identify at least one pest that the machine learning algorithm is incapable of identifying.

  • Patent number: 11093008
Abstract: A portable information handling system housing rotationally couples first and second housing portions with a hinge assembly having first and second axles held in a parallel fixed lateral disposition by interaction of a gear chassis, a drive carriage and an idler assembly. The first and second axles expand to increase the distance between the first and second housing portions in the event that the housing portions close over an object disposed between them. The idler assembly couples to the gear chassis and drive carriage to rotate with the second axle as it moves relative to the first axle.

  • Publication number: 20210247816
Abstract: A portable information handling system housing rotationally couples first and second housing portions with a hinge assembly having first and second breakaway brackets that define an adjacent position of the first and second housing portions relative to each other and a spread position. The first and second breakaway brackets expand the spacing between the first and second housing portions in the event that the housing portions close over an object disposed between them. The breakaway brackets bias to the adjacent position with a biasing device and a retainer that maintains the adjacent position unless a predetermined force is applied through the hinge assembly at the breakaway brackets.
