  • Patent number: 7192463
Abstract: An exhaust gas aftertreatment filter system for an internal combustion engine includes an aftertreatment filter disposed in-line with an exhaust gas conduit coupled to an internal combustion engine, a mounting bracket defining a mounting surface and at least one leg extending from the mounting bracket, the at least one leg defining a mounting foot at a distal end thereof with the mounting foot of the at least one leg and the mounting surface of the mounting bracket defining a first air gap therebetween, the mounting foot of the at least one leg secured to the aftertreatment filter, and at least one electrical component secured to the mounting surface of the mounting bracket.

  • Patent number: 6601015
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed including an internal combustion engine, a number of sensors configured to detect operating parameters of the engine, and art engine control system responsive to the sensors to regulate engine operation. The control system includes a controller operatively coupled to a nonvolatile memory and has an interface capable of receiving operator input to customize aspects of a diagnostic data collection routine embedded in the control system. The routine responds to this input to selectively establish a data collection trigger, the nature of the information to be stored in the nonvolatile memory in response to this trigger, and the rate of storage of this information in the memory. The trigger may be externally generated with an operator-controlled triggering device coupled to the control system or internally generated as a function of one or more of the operating parameters.

  • Patent number: 6321142
Abstract: A system for programming a vehicle control computer with selectable features and/or trim values includes a first computer maintaining a web site containing vehicle control computer calibration information and a second computer operable to access the web site whereby the first computer is responsive to information provided by a user to generate a set of feature and/or trim values and to create a file of the set of feature and/or trim values along with a loading program therefore. In one embodiment, the file and loading program may be loaded onto a memory disk for subsequent transfer to a third computer configured for communicating with a vehicle control computer. In another embodiment, the file and loading program may be transferred directly to the third computer via a wired or wireless communications link. In still another embodiment, the third computer may access the web site and the file and loading program may accordingly be transferred directly to the third computer from the web site.

  • Patent number: 6135918
Abstract: A system for controlling operation of an internal combustion engine includes a control computer responsive to a number of engine/vehicle operating conditions to control engine operation to thereby control engine speed and engine or vehicle acceleration. In one embodiment, the control computer is configured to determine an engine or vehicle acceleration limit value based on current engine or vehicle speed, and an engine speed limit value based on current engine load, and to control engine fueling and/or speed to thereby limit engine speed to the engine speed limit value and/or engine/vehicle acceleration to the engine/vehicle acceleration limit value.

  • Patent number: 6078873
Abstract: A method and apparatus for real-time data stamping via datalink and volatile ECM timer/clock. An engine control module (ECM) includes a volatile time-keeping mechanism, such as time-keeping software code inserted into the ECM software, which is capable of keeping track of elapsed time as long as the ECM microprocessor is powered. The ECM initially sets the volatile time-keeping mechanism with real time (RT) at ECM power up by retrieving the current RT over an attached datalink from a non-volatile RT clock (i.e. a clock that keeps track of time even during ECM power down). Thereafter, the ECM microprocessor may time stamp stored data using RT from the volatile time-keeping mechanism. The present invention thus precludes the need to provide a dedicated RT clock for the ECM, or the need for the ECM to request RT over the datalink every time the ECM wishes to time stamp data to be stored.

  • Patent number: 5938716
Abstract: A system for customizing the operation of a vehicle/engine control computer includes a memory card having control computer customizing information stored thereon and a memory card interface unit having at least one signal line connected to at least one existing input signal line of the vehicle/engine control computer. In one embodiment, the memory card interface unit includes a control device operable to control a number of switches each connected to one of a corresponding number of switched input signal lines of the vehicle/engine control computer. The control device is operable to read the control computer customizing information from the memory card and control the states of the number of switches to thereby transfer the control computer customizing information to the vehicle/engine control computer.
