Patent number: 7996668Abstract: A technique for establishing security in a publish/subscribe data processing broker network is presented. The technique includes providing a security extension module from a publisher to a broker of the network, wherein the security extension module is for a topic asset of the publisher. The broker employs the security extension module, responsive to receipt of a request from a subscriber for the topic asset, to authenticate the request at the broker before pushing the topic asset of the publisher to the subscriber. In addition to authenticating the request, the security mode extension can be employed to authorize the request, and to automatically forward messages to the publisher providing information on when topic asset access by a subscriber begins and ends.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2008Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Catherine C Diep, John W Huang, Paul J Wanish

Patent number: 7945452Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for operating a medical device with a screen having an improved graphical user interface, which selectively reallocates screen display for both single and multi-channel pumps. Channel indicators associate operation information with a specific delivery channel. Patient or drug order verification is facilitated with a rendering of the patient or the entire drug order/label on the screen. Decimal numbers are presented in vertically offset decimal format. A dual function button cancels the current operation and, after a delay, clears entered parameters. An area sensitive scrollbar cycles through information at various speeds. Screen brightness is adjusted based on an ambient light detector. A screen saver mode activates based on several operating conditions. The screen is incorporated in a removable user interface.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2005Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Hospira, Inc.Inventors: Marwan A. Fathallah, Heather J. Patent number: 7895053Abstract: A medication management system (MMS) includes a medication management unit (MMU) associated with a medical device. The MMU downloads medication delivery code based on a medication delivery order to the medical device only if information from a first input matches information from a second input. The medical device receives delivery information electronically only from the MMU. The medication order is performed only after delivery data validation. The MMU also determines drug-drug incompatibility. The MMU can modulate (start, stop, sequence and dynamically adjust) medication order performance.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2004Date of Patent: February 22, 2011Assignee: Hospira, Inc.Inventors: Geoffrey N. Holland, Patrick B. Keely, Jeff Pelletier, Charles P. Moran, Raymond P. Silkaitis, John W. Huang, Bernardino Rubalcaba, Jr., Martin A. McNeela, Imtiyaz Haque

Publication number: 20090135196Abstract: A method for dynamically adjusting the screen brightness of a pump screen display. The method includes providing a medical pump including an internal clock and a screen display having a first screen brightness and a second screen brightness. The method further includes providing a medication management unit operatively connected to the medical pump and transmitting configuration instructions from the medication management unit to the medical pump. The configuration instructions include instructions to display the first screen brightness during the daytime hours and instructions to display the second screen brightness during the nighttime hours. The method also includes determining a time of day using the internal clock of the pump and displaying the first or second screen brightness according to the time of day determined by the internal clock of the pump.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2009Publication date: May 28, 2009Applicant: HOSPIRA, INC.Inventors: Geoffrey N. Patent number: 7490021Abstract: A method for dynamically adjusting the screen brightness of a pump screen display. The method includes providing a medical pump including a screen display having a first screen brightness and a second screen brightness. The method further includes providing a medication management unit operatively connected to the medical pump where the medication management unit is configured to transmit operating instructions to the medical pump. The operating instructions transmittable from the medication management unit to the medical pump include instructions to display the first screen brightness during daytime hours and instructions to display the second screen brightness during nighttime hours. The method also includes determining a time of day using the medication management unit and transmitting from the medication management unit to the medical pump instructions to display the first or second screen brightness.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2004Date of Patent: February 10, 2009Assignee: Hospira, Inc.Inventors: Geoffrey N. Patent number: 6594512Abstract: A system is disclosed which first identifies a plurality of characteristics of a physiological signal any one of which may represent a physiological parameter. A plurality of different techniques are used to provide respective likelihood factors for each such identified characteristic. The resulting likelihood factors are then analyzed to select the one characteristic of the physiological signal which most likely represents the desired physiological parameter. The physiological parameter is then calculated from the selected characteristic of the physiological signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Assignee: Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc.Inventor: John W.
