Abstract: A quick release joint (10) for interconnecting structural modules such as table or shelf units (54) in stacked configuration comprises a ball and socket type joint constructed and/or arranged to provide structural integrity in the assembled condition of the joint. In one embodiment abutment surfaces (46, 48) on the ends of the ball and socket joint elements make face-to-face contact and thereby hold the joint in a fixed configuration. In another embodiment, three or more joints at the corners of a triangle provide structural integrity. In a further version, abutment surfaces on the structures joined themselves prevent pivotal movement of the joint. In all cases the joints are assembled merely by compression and disconnected by application of tension.
