  • Publication number: 20150105031
Abstract: A method for estimating a whole-body Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) caused in a body by electromagnetic fields emitted by a wireless communication device (40), where the body is represented by a phantom (30) and the wireless communication device (40) is positioned in the proximity of the phantom (30), comprises determining a complex electric field in a plurality of points distributed substantially in a single planar or curved surface (31) within the phantom (30), based on measurements of the magnitude of the electric field components in these points, and based on an assumption of constant phase of the electric field components. The method further comprises estimating a whole-body SAR in the phantom (30) based on the determined complex electric field in the plurality of points, and based on propagation of the complex electric field from the plurality of points into the volume of the phantom (30).

  • Patent number: 8457697
Abstract: An antenna arrangement comprising an input/output connection and a first and a second tuning network with different transfer functions. The arrangement additionally comprises an antenna and a switch for connecting the input/output connection of the arrangement to one of said tuning networks, with a second switch for connecting the antenna of the arrangement to the tuning network to which the input/output connection of the arrangement has been connected. The arrangement comprises a sensor for sensing a form factor of the arrangement or of an apparatus in which the arrangement is used, and said sensor can be used for influencing said first and second switches, so that a device which has been connected to the arrangement may be connected to the antenna via a tuning network optimal for the current form factor of the arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20130079047
Abstract: The present invention relates to a node (1) in a wireless communication system, the node (1) comprising at least a first and second antenna function (2, 3), and a first and second radio chain (4, 5). At least at the start of a first mode of operation, each antenna function (2, 3) is connected to a corresponding radio chain (4, 5). The node further comprises a switching network (6) and a beamforming network (7), which switching network (6), at least at the start of a second mode of operation, is arranged to disconnect at least one antenna function (2) from its corresponding radio chain (4) and connect it to another of the radio chains (5) via at least a part of the beamforming network (7), such that at least two antenna functions (2, 3) are connected to the same radio chain (5). The node (1) is arranged to perform beamforming for said at least two antenna functions (2, 3) by means of said beamforming network (7), the switching network (6) being arranged to switch between the first mode and the second mode.

  • Patent number: 8224271
Abstract: An electronic device (200,300) comprising an antenna arrangement with first and second antenna groups with first (122, 142) and a second (124, 144) radiation elements. The first and second radiation elements in each group have first and second respective polarizations and gain, and said groups also comprise a beam forming network (126, 146) connected to the radiation elements of the group and to an output selector (150). The beam forming network (126, 146) of each antenna group uses the radiation elements (122, 124; 142, 144) in the group to create a radiation pattern (127, 147) with a polarization which is a composite of the first and second polarizations of the elements in the group, so that a first (127) and a second (147) radiation pattern of composite polarization is created. The output selector (150) selects or combines signals received by the two antenna groups as its output.

  • Patent number: 8135549
Abstract: A method and device for calculating the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) caused in a body by the electric field of a wireless communications device. The method involves using a model of a body, wherein the device is placed in proximity to the model and the electric field is measured at discrete points, including measuring the magnitude of the electric field at points of a first and a second surface of the model. By means of the measured magnitudes, the phase at said points is determined, such that the complex electric field at said points is determined. The complex electric field at said points is then used to determine the complex electric field in the model of the body. The complex electric field is used in order to calculate the SAR value caused by the device.
