  • Patent number: 11421640
Abstract: A disclosed method of automatically stopping and restarting a vehicle engine determines if one or more stop/start enablement condition has been met. If the stop/start enablement condition or conditions have been met, the method initiates an engine shutdown. If a restart request is made before the engine reaches a predetermined threshold speed, then a first restart sequence is initiated. If a restart request is made when the engine speed is less than the predetermined threshold speed but still greater than 0, then a second restart sequence is initiated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 2020
Date of Patent: August 23, 2022
    Assignee: PACCAR Inc.
Inventors: Michael D. Gerty, Uday Vadlamani, Jordan Mosher, Sundeep S. Tuteja, Constantin E. Nedelcu

  • Patent number: 10690240
Abstract: A computer system (e.g., an on-board vehicle computer system) creates or updates a mapping of transmission gears and respective driveline ratios during operation of the vehicle. The system obtains a current engine speed and vehicle speed and calculates a current driveline ratio for the vehicle based on the current engine speed and vehicle speed. If the driveline is engaged, the system updates the mapping based at least in part on the current driveline ratio. Performing the update may include adding a new transmission gear or updating an existing transmission gear in the mapping, or removing a duplicate transmission gear from the mapping. Applications include cruise control, predictive cruise control, predictive shifting, and selecting a gear for a specific purpose (e.g., for descending a hill).

  • Patent number: 10392998
Abstract: A system for estimating an amount of soot in an exhaust particulate filter includes a delta P soot load estimate generator configured to generate a first soot load estimate as a function of a pressure drop and a mass flow of exhaust. The system further includes a model estimate generator configured to generate a second soot load estimate as a function of a modeled engine performance. A trust factor generator is configured to determine a trust factor signal as a function of at least one engine operating characteristic, and a decision generator is configured to determine whether to use the first soot load estimate or the second soot load estimate as a function of the trust factor signal.
