  • Publication number: 20220347363
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems for determining a correlation between intraperitoneal pressure (“IPP”) measurements and patient intraperitoneal volume (“IPV”) are disclosed. In an example, an apparatus is configured to determine a maximum fill volume of dialysate to be pumped into a peritoneal cavity of a patient. The apparatus also determines a plurality of iterations to achieve the maximum fill volume and a volume of the dialysate to be pumped for each of the iterations. For each iteration, the apparatus causes a dialysis machine to pump the dialysate to the peritoneal cavity based on the determined volume for that iteration, records IPP measurement output data from a pressure sensor, records or determines a total accumulated fill volume, and creates a data point for a personalized patient model corresponding to a correlation between the IPP measurement output data and the total accumulated fill volume.

  • Publication number: 20220249124
Abstract: A trocar for peritoneal dialysis is disclosed herein. An example trocar includes a conduit having two or more parallel lumens and a head connected to a first end of the conduit. The head includes two (or more) parallel lumens that are aligned respectively with the parallel conduit lumens and includes at least one of a gasket or a seal for each lumen. The trocar also includes a coupler connected to the head. The coupler includes two (or more) parallel lumens that are aligned respectively with the parallel lumens of the head. The coupler includes a coupling mechanism for each lumen for securing surgical tools in place after insertion into a patient. The trocar may also include an obturator having a shaft that is removably inserted through the coupler, head, and conduit to protrude from a second end of the conduit.

  • Patent number: 7320674
Abstract: A catheter suitable for use in performing peritoneal dialysis. The catheter is a dual lumen catheter which allows for continuous flow peritoneal dialysis. Dialysate flows through the catheter into the patient via one lumen and simultaneously flows through the catheter out of the patient via the second lumen. The dual lumen dialysis catheter has a flexible tube which has an implantable portion extending from an external patient portion. Both of the lumens have openings in the external patient portion for connecting to a supply and drain of dialysate, respectively. The implantable portion has a preformed curved segment which has an outlet for the first lumen to flow dialysate into the patient's peritoneal cavity. The implantable portion has an opening for the second lumen at the distal end to flow dialysate out of the peritoneal cavity and removal from the patient.

  • Patent number: 6003635
Abstract: A device for recovering fluid from a reservoir having a lower drain. The device includes a first coupling connectable to a drain of a reservoir and having an internal passage for fluid flow therethrough. A conduit has one end connected to the first coupling for fluid flow into the conduit and a second end opposite the first end with a valve to control fluid flow through the conduit. A probe, defining a fluid passage, has a tip portion for actuating the valve from its normally closed position to an open position upon insertion of the tip portion in the valve to allow fluid flow through the valve and the probe. A portable receptacle is attached to the probe for collecting fluid when the valve is actuated to the open position. A portable pump reduces the pressure in the receptacle to draw fluid through the conduit and into the receptacle.
