  • Patent number: 7544823
Abstract: The present invention relates to sunflower seeds which have been genetically modified through two artificial induction cycles of mutations followed in each case by processes for the identification of mutant individuals which have the desired character. The disclosed seeds are characterised in that they contain between 26% and 80% of the tocopherols as delta-tocopherol. This high delta-tocopherol production is determined by the genotype of the seeds which have been modified to this effect, and is always obtained independently of the culture conditions, thereby obtaining an inheritable character. Today, sunflower seeds producing such high levels of delta-tocopherol do not exist. Genetically modified sunflower plants which produce through self-fertilization seeds with high delta-tocopherol levels and the oil with high natural delta-tocopherol concentration, extracted from the seeds, are also objectives of the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20090098855
Abstract: A mobile communication device has communication service restricted when it becomes apparent that the device is in transit. The communication system receives an access control message indicating the device is in transit. The system accesses a mobility access profile stored in a database. The mobility access profile indicates provisioning changes to be made in providing communication service to the mobile communication device while the device is in transit.

  • Publication number: 20090083819
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a full duplex wideband communications system for a local (e.g., in-home) coaxial network. The system employs a Frequency-division duplex (FDD) scheme that allows identical wideband modems to communicate with each other. To achieve this, the wideband modems contain a duplexer and a switch that allows reversing the connection of the wideband transmitter and receiver to the duplexer. Each wideband modem includes a control modem that is used to control access to the wideband channels. A wideband transmitter, which may be included in a modem associated with a server set-top terminal (STT), transmits a video presentation to a wideband receiver, which may be included in a modem associated with a client STT.

  • Publication number: 20090013939
Abstract: An apparatus and method for restricting the movement of an animal into or out of a defined area for training and preventing the animal from crossing into or out of the defined area, e.g., a room within a house or an enclosed or defined space outside of a house, such as a gateway or a doorway, while not affecting surrounding areas. The apparatus and method for restricting the movement of the animal utilizes a receiving device shaped to decrease the peripheral reception an ultrasonic frequency emitted from a transmitter, and thereby decreasing the likelihood of corrective stimulation outside the defined area. The apparatus and method for restricting the movement of an animal also includes a variable duty cycle to achieve substantial power savings and prolonged battery life once the animal does not need continuous corrective stimulation.

  • Patent number: 6184651
Abstract: In a contactless charging system charging energy is transferred across an inductive coupler to charge a battery (21) of a portable device, such as a two-way radio, cellular phone, paging device, or wireless communicator. The inductive coupler also provides a way for communicating at least one signal, such as to improve the charging process and the transfer of charging energy. Charging efficiency is improved by voltage regulation using feedback through the inductive coupler, or via a wireless RF link, and a controller (11) in-circuit with the primary side (12) of the inductive coupler. The controller (11) may communicate information signals via inductive coupling, or via a wireless RF link, for communicating with other devices such as smart cards and microphones or for control or data transfer.

  • Patent number: 6087812
Abstract: A hybrid energy storage system (10) including a first energy storage device (12), such as a secondary or rechargeable battery, and a second energy storage device (14), such as an electrochemical capacitor, fuel cell, or flywheel. The second energy storage device provides intermittent energy bursts to satisfy the power requires of, for example, pulsed power communication devices. The first and second energy storage devices are coupled to a current controller to assure that pulse transients are not applied to the first energy storage device as a result of charging the second energy storage device.

  • Patent number: 5916699
Abstract: An energy storage system (10) including a first energy storage device (12), such as a secondary or rechargeable battery, and a second energy storage device (14), such as a capacitor, fuel cell, or flywheel. The second energy storage device provides intermittent energy bursts to satisfy the power requires of, for example, pulsed power communication devices. Such devices typically require power pulses in excess of those which conventional battery cells can easily provide for numerous cycles. The system (10) further includes circuitry (16) for coupling the second energy storage device (14) to a load in response to changes in the battery (12).

  • Patent number: 5815382
Abstract: A tracking circuit for a power supply comprises an inverter (68), a summing network (70), and a driver circuit (72). The inverter inverts a feedback voltage, which is a variable load voltage level, about an inverter reference voltage level to provide an inverter output voltage level. The inverter output voltage level is summed or averaged with the output voltage of the power supply with respect to the voltage of the return line (54) to provide a summing voltage. The driver circuit signals the primary control circuit (35) to adjust the power supply output voltage level so that the summing voltage is held constant and equal with a driver reference voltage level.

  • Patent number: 5695886
Abstract: A lithium ion battery is provided with an overvoltage switch (12) and an overvoltage control circuit (14). The overvoltage control circuit causes the overvoltage switch to open, thus disconnecting the battery from a charger, upon the battery voltage reaching a first predetermined level when charged by a charger not designed to charge a lithium ion battery. However, when the battery is connected to an appropriately designed charger, the battery receives an input signal through an input terminal (24) which causes the overvoltage control circuit to open the overvoltage switch at a higher second predetermined level, should the appropriately designed charger fail to enter voltage regulation when the battery voltage reaches the first predetermined level.
