  • Patent number: 4832750
Abstract: A toothpick holder for holding toothpicks in different positions to facilitate access to different portions of the dental arches. The holder includes a handle with an arm thereon having a toothpick receiving opening through which a toothpick can be positioned to point first in one direction and also in a direction 180 degrees opposite the first position for gaining access to the fronts and backs of all the interdental, or proximal spaces.

  • Patent number: 4672986
Abstract: A toothpick holder for holding a toothpick with a wedge-shaped cross-sectional configuration in different adjusted positions to facilitate access to different areas of the mouth, comprises an elongate handle with a shaped opening through one end thereof and a toothpick retainer having a stem received in the opening of the handle. The stem and opening have complementally shaped indexing portions which may be brought into and out of mating engagement to selectively detain the retainer in an adjusted position or permit its rotation in the opening to move it to a different adjusted position.

  • Patent number: 4630623
Abstract: A toothpick holder for holding toothpicks in different positions to facilitate access to different portions of the mouth. The holder includes a handle with a pair of arms thereon each having a toothpick receiving opening therein and oriented to position the toothpick received in one opening for gaining access to a first portion of the mouth and to position a toothpick received in the other opening for gaining access to a different portion of the mouth.

  • Patent number: 4520833
Abstract: A toothpick holder with a plurality of toothpick-gripping openings oriented to hold toothpicks in different positions to facilitate access to different portions of the teeth. The holder is generally T-shaped, with an elongate handle having a cross-piece at one end. The cross-piece has oppositely oriented openings in its opposite ends for selectively holding first one toothpick and then another such that the toothpicks are properly oriented to gain access to different areas of the teeth. Each opening is larger on one side of the cross-piece than on the other, having a stepped or reduced portion between the ends of the openings, defining a shoulder. As a toothpick is inserted through the opening, the narrow edge of the toothpick engages the shoulder and a portion of the narrow edge of the toothpick is shaved off or rolled back, tending to wedge the toothpick in place.

  • Patent number: 4397327
Abstract: A toothpick holder for holding a toothpick in any one of several adjusted positions for facilitating access to difficult to reach areas of the mouth, includes a handle with a toothpick retainer projecting perpendicularly therefrom, with aligned openings in the retainer for snugly receiving a toothpick. The retainer is held latched in position relative to the handle by a releasable latch, which can be manipulated to release the retainer either for removal from the handle or adjustment to a different position relative thereto. The openings in the retainer are of different size and are configured to snugly receive at both openings spaced portions of a toothpick. Further, the holder of the invention is specifically designed to properly orient a toothpick having a wedge shaped cross section for optimum cleaning of the space between the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4370773
Abstract: A toothbrush having a bristle supporting head pivotally mounted to a handle for pivotal movement of the head and bristles about a pivot axis substantially perpendicular to the axis of the handle to a plurality of positions to gain easy access to tooth surfaces at opposite sides of the mouth, the bristles extending in a direction mutually perpendicular to the axis of the handle and pivot axis, and the handle having an enlarged hollow end for storage therein of a bristle supporting head or the like and for supporting the toothbrush in an upright, free standing position. A spring biased detent is engaged with the pivot shaft of the bristle supporting head to retain it assembled to the handle and to maintain it in a predetermined adjusted pivoted position. An actuator projects beyond the end of the handle for engagement with the finger to release the bristle supporting head.

  • Patent number: 4106152
Abstract: A toothbrush having an elongate handle with an enlarged base end capable of supporting the toothbrush in an upright position and being hollow for storage of the bristle head or the like therein, includes an elongate shaft fixed at one end to the base and projecting axially therefrom. A tubular sleeve is axially slidable on the shaft and the shaft has bristle head retaining structure thereon for retaining a bristle head on the handle at the end thereof opposite the base end. The sleeve is normally biased toward the base end to a first position, whereat the bristle head retaining structure is engaged with the bristle head to hold it in position and the sleeve is movable away from the base end to a second position to move the bristle head to disengage it from the bristle head retaining structure. A finger operated sleeve actuator is slidable relative to the base end and shaft to engage the sleeve and move it to its second position, and a seal is engaged between the shaft and sleeve at the bristle head end.
