  • Patent number: 7455248
Abstract: A pistol-shaped powder delivery device consolidates propellant pulse creation, powder storage, powder aerosolization and aerolsolized powdered delivery in a single device while providing dose, pattern and coverage control of the output spray. The single-hand-held, single-hand-operated device includes a housing having a handle portion that is selectively collapsed to generate a propellant pulse that is conveyed into and through powder stored in a reservoir mounted at an upward angle to the horizontal in a receptacle provided in the housing. Powder in the reservoir is caused to be aerosolized by the propellant pulse whereupon aerosolized powder exits the reservoir through an open end of, and elongate slots provided in the sidewall of, an elongate hollow member extending from an outlet in the receptacle through the stored powdered material into a head space in the reservoir. The outlet is connected a barrel portion for output of the aerosolized powder spray.

  • Patent number: 6342061
Abstract: A surgical tool designed for irrigated microsurgery or pediatric surgery. The tool includes an outer hub that is fixed to a complementary handpiece. An outer tube extends forward from the outer hub. An inner hub is coupled to a drive member integral with the handpiece to rotate in unison with the drive member. An inner tube extends forward from the inner hub and is disposed inside the outer tube. A cutting member is located on the forward end of the inner tube. The inner wall of the outer tube and the adjacent outer wall of the inner tube are in close proximity to each other. Irrigation fluid is introduced between the tubes through an opening in the outer hub. The outer wall of the inner tube is formed with a flat that extends longitudinally along the tube from the section of the inner tube that is subtended by the opening for the irrigation fluid to the distal end at which the cutting assembly is located.

  • Patent number: 6007556
Abstract: An irrigation surgical tool system comprises a motorized handpiece, a tool for insertion in the handpiece, a console including a mounting plate and peristaltic pump rotor and a tube set including a cassette installable on the console for peristaltic pumping of irrigation liquid to the tool. Passages in the tool allow irrigation liquid flow, between a fixed outer tube and rotating inner tube of the tool, to a surgical site, through windows in the tool inner and outer tubes. Application of suction to the tool enables withdrawal through the inner tube of irrigation and surgical debris from the surgical site.

  • Patent number: 5261895
Abstract: Apparatus for guiding insertion of surgical instruments into a surgical site while blocking escape of fluids, including gas under pressure, therethrough from the surgical site. A generally Y-shaped housing comprises an elongate instrument guide having a distal end insertable in the surgical site and an elongate instrument passage through which elongate instruments are insertable into the surgical site. A valve seat is provided in the instrument passage. A valve member is movable into contact with the valve seat for blocking escape of fluid from the surgical site therepast along the instrument passage when no instrument occupies such instrument passage. Such housing includes a tubular valve guide having an elongate valve passage intersecting the instrument passage and along which the valve member is movable toward and away from the valve seat.
