Abstract: A disposable, shielded catheter-cannula insertion needle wherein a catheter-cannula assembly is detachably connected to the distal end of a housing having a piston assembly slidably mounted therein. The insertion needle extends through the catheter-cannula and is connected to the piston assembly. A stem, including a cap, is detachably connected to the housing to provide a cover for the catheter-cannula and connectable to the piston assembly for drawing the contaminated insertion needle into a shielded position within the housing. The catheter-cannula assembly includes a self-sealing bushing for closing the flow-through passage in the catheter-cannula when the insertion needle has been removed therefrom.

Abstract: A disposable shielded medical syringe wherein the contaminated needle is connected to a piston slidably mounted in the syringe barrel. The syringe plunger piston is threadably connectable to the needle piston for pulling the contaminated needle into the barrel to the shielded position. The syringe plunger is disconnectable from the plunger piston after the needle has been moved to the shielded position and a cap is insertable into the open end of the syringe barrel to completely enclose the contaminated needle.

Abstract: A disposable shielded medical syringe wherein the contaminated needle is drawn into the syringe barrel and a cap or scabbard is insertable into the open end of the syringe barrel to completely enclose the contaminated needle. A spring clip is mounted on the proximate end portion of the syringe barrel providing a stop member to prevent the syringe plunger from being pulled completely out of the barrel.
