  • Patent number: 10087859
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for an internal combustion engine having at least two cylinders configured in such a way that they form two groups, at least one cylinder of a first group being a cylinder which is operational in the event of a partial deactivation of the engine, and at least one cylinder of a second group being formed as a load-dependently switchable cylinder. An inlet-side throttle element is provided with at least one intake line of the switchable cylinder, by means of which the size of the flow cross section of the intake line can be varied, whereby the charge-air flow rate supplied to the deactivated cylinder in the event of a partial deactivation of the engine can be adjusted. Each outlet opening of a load-dependently switchable cylinder is equipped with a partially variable valve drive, with an outlet valve which opens or shuts off the outlet opening.

  • Patent number: 9897060
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for an injector arrangement for an internal combustion engine. In one example, an injector arrangement may include an actuator positioned between a fuel injector and a cylinder head, with the actuator configured to adjust a position of the fuel injector relative to the cylinder head in order to adjust a protrusion amount of a fuel nozzle tip within a combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 8783029
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine is provided. The engine comprises a cylinder, an intake line in an intake system, for supplying charge air to the cylinder, an exhaust line for discharging exhaust gases, an exhaust-gas turbocharger including a turbine arranged in the exhaust line and a compressor arranged in the intake line, an exhaust-gas recirculation arrangement including a recirculation line which branches off from the exhaust line downstream of the turbine and opens into the intake line upstream of the compressor, and a sensor for detecting the concentration Ci,intake of a component i of the charge air in the intake system provided downstream of the opening of the recirculation line into the intake line. In this way, the exhaust-gas recirculation may be regulated based on feedback from the sensor to control emissions.

  • Publication number: 20120174576
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine is provided. The engine comprises a cylinder; an intake line in an intake system, for supplying charge air to the cylinder via an inlet manifold on an inlet side of the internal combustion engine into an inlet opening on the cylinder; an exhaust line for discharging exhaust gases; an exhaust-gas turbocharger including a turbine arranged in the exhaust line and a compressor arranged in the intake line; an exhaust-gas recirculation arrangement including a recirculation line which branches off from the exhaust line downstream of the turbine and opens into the intake line upstream of the compressor; and a charge-air cooler in the intake line downstream of the compressor, the charge-air cooler arranged above the inlet opening of the cylinder.
