  • Publication number: 20060126547
Abstract: A method and a GGSN support node for sending data packets to a mobile station in a mobile communications system from an external communication system. The GGSN receives data packets from the external communication system in a first plurality of data flows which it maps to a second plurality of data flows in the mobile communications system. It establishes at least one filter for controlling the mapping and associates the filter with the mobile station. It also maps at least one of the data flows on the basis of the filter and configures the filter on the basis of information which preferably originates from the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7054954
Abstract: A method for defining a context identifier when compressing header fields of data packets, in which method, a context is defined for a compressor and decompressor of a data packet flow, the context controlling the operation of said compressor and decompressor. The context is identified by a context identifier attached to the data packet and the length of the context identifier is defined by data transfer between the compressor and decompressor in such a manner that the length of the context identifier is defined in the context identifier of the data packet being transmitted. The context identifier comprises a field of at least one bit for defining the length of the context identifier. The length of the context identifier can be defined in the context identifier of each data packet being transmitted.

  • Patent number: 7035287
Abstract: A method of defining header field compression for a data packet connection and a header field compression system, in which a context for controlling the operation of a compressor and decompressor is defined as one parameter of the connection. A length is defined for a context identifier used in identifying data packet connections for data transmission between the compressor and decompressor, said length defining the maximum number of data packet connections transmitted on one connection. Each data packet connection is identified by its own context identifier. The parameters of the connection are defined in such a manner that at least the number of header fields of data packet connections allowed by the defined context identifier length can be compressed despite the fact that the number of data packet connections allowed by said context identifier length is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 7031718
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for selecting a quality of service for a data transmission connection between a wireless terminal (MT1) and a mobile communication network (NW1). In the wireless terminal (MT1), at least one application (301, 302, 303) is arranged to be performed, which determines at least one parameter affecting the quality of service for said data transmission connection. In the method, the properties (401) of the wireless terminal (MT1) affecting the data transmission connection are determined and compared with at least one parameter affecting the quality of service determined by the application (301, 302, 303), to find out if any determined property (401) of the wireless terminal restricts the quality of service of the data transmission connection, with respect to at least one said parameter.

  • Patent number: 7016678
Abstract: A method is disclosed for a mobile station for performing a handover from a first network connection to a second network connection. A mobile telecommunication system provides for non-real time telecommunication connections over a radio interface between mobile stations and the fixed parts of the mobile telecommunication system. At least one active non-real time telecommunication connection is between a mobile station and the fixed parts of the mobile telecommunication system is suspended (704) before performing a handover (702?) from the first network connection to the second network connection. • Patent number: 6930980
Abstract: A method and a telecommunication system for data packet numbering in packet-switched data transmission in connection with a handover, in which the responsibility for a connection is transferred from the connection between a mobile station and a first wireless telecommunication network to the connection between said mobile station and a second wireless telecommunication network. In the first wireless telecommunication network a data packet number space available for data packet numbering is bigger than a data packet number space of the second wireless telecommunication network. Data packet numbering is restricted in the first wireless telecommunication network such that the numbers of the data packets of the first wireless telecommunication network do not exceed the maximum value of the data packet number space of the second wireless telecommunication network.

  • Patent number: 6847610
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for optimizing the transfer of information between one or more applications run in a mobile terminal (MT) and a packet-switched network (NW). There are at least two PDP contexts (PDP1-PDP9) available in the packet-switched network (NW), which have at least partly different data transfer properties, whereby the PDP contexts (PDP1-PDP9) can provide at least partly different qualities of service for the transfer of information. In this method at least one application connection is established for at least one of said applications, for which application connection a quality of service is specified. In addition, this method is characterized in that at least one data flow is formed of the information to be transferred in the application connection, and one of the PDP contexts (PDP1-PDP9) is selected for each data flow of the application connection.

  • Publication number: 20040148416
Abstract: A method (and corresponding equipment) by which a first device (11a), operable in a first network (11) including an SIP type of network (such as an IMS network) to which the first device (11a) is subscribed, communicates with a second device (12a), operable in a second network (12) including a WV network to which the second device (12a) is subscribed, the method providing routing steps so that each SIP network entity, such as an I-CSCF (11f), that processes the message encounters an SIP addressing scheme, i.e. the addressing scheme native to the SIP type of network, and so that each WV server (12b) encounters only an addressing scheme native to the WV network, after possibly preliminary conversion (A0-D0) to the native addressing scheme. The first network (11) may also include components of a WV network, and the second network (12) may also include components of an SIP type of network.

  • Publication number: 20040139198
Abstract: A method and apparatus for updating authorization and other persistent data using the session initiation protocol. In one aspect, a computing device sends a SIP PUBLISH message (or any other appropriate SIP message) to a second networked computing device. The second device extracts data from the SIP message and uses the extracted data to modify and/or update a set of persistent data. The data may be placed in the body of the SIP message. In one example, the SIP message body uses XML enclosing a remote procedure call or a call processing script.

  • Patent number: 6757533
Abstract: A. telecommunications system, utilizing rich calling line handling in call setup signaling to forward RCLIP (Rich Calling Line Identification Presentation) data, forwards at least one call setup signal from the calling party terminal of a caller to a called party terminal of a called party via a network upon the caller desiring to initiate a called without RCLIP data. Upon the caller desiring to initiate a call with RCLIP data, the RCLIP data can either be forwarded with at least one call setup signal directly from the calling party terminal to the called party terminal or can be forwarded with the RCLIP data being attached by the network in accordance with an indicator from the calling party, the RCLIP data being stored in a database in the network. The RCLIP data can be presented to the called party immediately upon the called party terminal ringing/alerting.

  • Publication number: 20040100913
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for providing parameter values required at different locations of a cellular communications system for packet header creation, to cellular communications systems and to their components. In order to enable a supply of continuous values for said parameters after a change of access of a user equipment from one network element to another, it is proposed that the parameter is either continuously stored and/or generated in the user equipment throughout a connection or transmitted from a first network element to the user equipment when the access of the user equipment is changed from the first to a second network element. On the other hand, it is proposed that the user equipment transmits said parameter to a network element to which it changes or that the network element to which the user equipment was connected transmits said parameter to the network element to which the user equipment changes.
