  • Patent number: 8106855
Abstract: A driving apparatus of a plasma display panel (PDP) operates stably and reliably. The driving apparatus to drive the PDP includes a pulse application unit which applies a pulse to the PDP; and an energy recovery unit which comprises an inductor which generates LC resonance with a panel capacitor element of the PDP, an energy recovery determiner which determines the accumulation of energy during the LC resonance or emission of the accumulated energy to the PDP, and an energy storage unit which stores the accumulated energy, wherein the energy recovery determiner comprises a first falling switching device which determines the accumulation of the energy; and a second falling switching device which is connected between the first falling switching device and the energy storage unit, in order for the second falling switching device to form a current path toward the energy storage unit.

  • Publication number: 20080143645
Abstract: A method of driving a discharge display panel is disclosed. In the method, a unit frame is divided into sub-fields, where each sub-field has a reset period, an addressing period, and a discharge-sustain period. The number of sustain pulses in the discharge-sustaining period of each of the sub-fields corresponds to gray-scale weighted values of each of the sub-fields and to an average gray-scales of the frame. Additionally, the reset wave form is determined based on the number of sustain pulses in the previous discharge-sustain period.

  • Publication number: 20080111770
Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel is disclosed. The panel comprises a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, which are formed on an upper substrate in parallel to each other, and an address electrode formed on a lower substrate in the direction where the address electrode intersects the scan electrode and the sustain electrode. The method comprises generating an opposite discharge between one of the scan electrode and the sustain electrode and the address electrode during a sustain period, and generating a surface discharge between the scan electrode and the sustain electrode after the opposite discharge is generated.

  • Patent number: 7319292
Abstract: A plasma display panel is disclosed. More particularly, the present invention relates to a plasma display panel, which can improve discharge stability as well as brightness and efficiency. The plasma display panel according to the present invention includes transparent electrodes (ITO electrodes) spaced in parallel to each other at a predetermined distance; and metal electrodes each formed on the transparent electrodes (ITO electrodes) in parallel to the transparent electrodes (ITO electrodes) so that the respective transparent electrodes (ITO electrodes) are inclined toward the side where the transparent electrodes face.

  • Publication number: 20070008247
Abstract: A plasma display device and a driving method thereof. In a plasma display panel having an opening or a groove between a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, a driving waveform is applied to the scan electrode and an address electrode while the sustain electrode is biased at a predetermined voltage. Then, since a discharge path is formed through the opening or the groove between the scan and sustain electrodes, a discharge firing voltage may be reduced and misfiring prevented in a sustain period.

  • Patent number: 6501447
Abstract: A plasma display panel having a structure that is capable of reducing a discharge area to decrease a discharge power. In the panel, first and second electrodes for generating a radio frequency discharge are arranged to be opposite and perpendicular to each other. The two electrodes generating the radio frequency discharge are perpendicularly arranged to limit the luminous area into the perpendicular area, thereby reducing a discharge power and improving the luminescence efficiency.
