  • Publication number: 20090040627
Abstract: An optical lens includes a recessed part and a refracting part. The recessed part has a substantially circular plan view and a substantially V shaped cross-section. The recessed part forms an angle of no more than an angle of about 20° with respect to a vertical line. The recessed part has a plurality of curved surfaces including different radii so that a light incident into the recessed part is totally reflected from the curved surfaces. The refracting part has a substantially circular plan view extended from the recessed part. A light incident into the refracting part and the reflected light from the recessed part are refracted from the refracting part. Therefore, a luminance uniformity and a color uniformity are improved.

  • Publication number: 20080079869
Abstract: A light absorption material absorbing a light of a dummy wavelength range or noises is added to a diffusion plate to remove light of an unnecessary wavelength band when using a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (“CCFL”) to enhance color reproducibility. Because the light absorption material is simply included in the diffusion plate, a fabrication or development cost can be reduced, and because a production line is not necessary, costs can be saved.

  • Publication number: 20070086191
Abstract: An optical member that lends itself to be more cost-effectively manufactured than a conventional optical member is presented. A display device made with the optical member can be thinner than the conventional optical member. The optical member includes a light-incident face that receives light emitted from a lamp positioned at a side of the optical member, a light-exiting face that is in a plane perpendicular to the light-incident face, and a light reflecting face opposite to the light-exiting face. A light-concentrating pattern having a plurality of concentric circles is formed on the light-exiting face. The light-concentrating pattern may be the Fresnel lens pattern. A diffusing pattern for diffusing the light is formed on the light reflecting face. Since patterns are formed on the optical member, additional optical sheet such as a prism sheet, a reflective polarizing sheet, a diffusion sheet, etc., is unnecessary.

  • Publication number: 20070047264
Abstract: A mold frame that does not yellow with exposure to ultraviolet radiation is presented. The mold frame includes a first portion, a second portion and a silicone layer. The first portion supports the optical member. The second portion extends from the first member and reflects a light generated from the lamp. The first silicone layer is coated on the second portion. With the silicone layer formed on the mold frame, yellowing is prevented and display quality is improved.

  • Publication number: 20070019410
Abstract: An optical sheet includes a diffusion layer, a brightness enhancement layer, and a reflecting pattern layer. The diffusion layer diffuses the light generated from a light source, e.g. a lamp. The brightness enhancement layer is on the diffusion layer. The reflecting pattern layer is between the brightness enhancement layer and includes a gap and a reflective structure in a first region and a second region, respectively. to the reflective structure maintains a distance between the brightness enhancement layer and the diffusion layer. The optical sheet is useful for enhancing the luminance of the light from the lamp. When used with a backlight assembly for a display device, the optical sheet is capable of enhancing the luminance while also decreasing the overall thickness of the backlight assembly.
