  • Patent number: 5384159
Abstract: A process is provided for reclaiming rejected polycarbonate articles, such as an automotive headlamp-lens having a thermoplastic acrylic primer and a defective silicone hardcoat. The silicone hardcoat can be selectively removed with an aqueous alkaline bath treatment. The treated polycarbonate article can be recovered with the thermoplastic acrylic primer remaining substantially intact; the article can be restored by treatment with a silicone hardcoat.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1993
Date of Patent: January 24, 1995
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Gregory R. Gillette, Karen K. Webb
  • Patent number: 4491508
Abstract: UV curable coating compositions are provided based on the use of photoinitiator with the hydrolysis product of silylacrylate and aqueous colloidal silica. The UV curable silicone coating compositions also can contain polyfunctional acrylate. The UV curable hardcoat composition can be applied onto various substrates, for example, a polycarbonate substrate, and thereafter cured under UV radiation to produce adherent and abrasion resistant coated articles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 21, 1983
Date of Patent: January 1, 1985
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Daniel R. Olson, Karen K. Webb
