  • Patent number: 5440881
Abstract: The invention relates to an intake system for an internal-combustion engine charged in one or two stages. The intake system is to be used with as few changes as possible in both a one-stage as well as a two-stage supercharging. The exhaust gas turbochargers, the charge air coolers and the air collecting housings as well as the interconnect pipes between these system parts and the pipes to the inlet ducts of the cylinder heads are used in the same arrangement in both a one-stage and a two-stage supercharging. The arrangement of the charge air cooler used in the one-stage supercharging, is the same as the high-pressure charge air cooler of the two-stage supercharging. The arrangement of the exhaust gas turbochargers in the one-stage supercharging, is the same as that of the high-pressure exhaust gas turbochargers in the two-stage supercharging.

  • Patent number: 4577595
Abstract: A piston for a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine, in which the piston top (11) is secured to the wrist pin (14) by way of two support bearings (18) independent of the piston skirt (12). The piston ring carrier (16) connected with the piston top (11) is additionally connected with the two support bearings by way of a ring-shaped support element (19). A piston with a piston top (11) results which is capable of resisting high combustion space pressures.

  • Patent number: 4538584
Abstract: In a diesel internal combustion engine (10) having a low compression ratio, at least one cylinder (11) operating as engine cylinder is supercharged during starting and in the partial load operation by several cylinders (12, 13) operating as compressor. The piston of the first compressor (12) which is used for the direct charging of the engine cylinder (11), leads the piston of the engine cylinder (11) exactly so far that the air compressed by the same is fed directly into the engine cylinder (11) during the beginning of the compression stroke. At least one further compressor cylinder (13) supplies its air to an air storage device (22) which is connected with the engine cylinder (11) by way of a line (24) adapted to be closed off by a valve (23).

  • Patent number: 4106444
Abstract: A liquid-cooled individual cylinder head for piston internal combustion engines with two inlet valves and two outlet valves arranged respectively adjacent one another, which consists of a cast upper part and of a double-walled bottom between the upper part and the combustion space, which is provided with apertures for the valves and for an injection nozzle or a pre-chamber; the bottom extends over the entire surface of the cylinder head upper part up to the outer boundary thereof while the lower surface of the upper part and both surfaces of the bottom are constructed planar; the two parts of the bottom are supported with respect to one another by wall portions or ribs within an annular zone in the area of the support of the bottom on the cylinder head seal while several cooling medium inlet openings are distributed in the lower wall of the double-walled bottom between the annular zone and an outer boundary.
