  • Patent number: 6823767
Abstract: The invention is based on the concept of providing a digital data transmission of the fuze-timing data into a fuze-timable ammunition unit, for example with an HDB-3 (High-Density Bipolar) transmission code and voltage modulation. As is known from asynchronous data transmission, a start byte and a stop byte are respectively positioned in front of and behind the HDB-3 code, and are therefore components of thee fuze-timing data. The fuze-timing time is transmitted numerically as a data byte between the start and stop bytes. Accordingly, the ammunition unit (3) includes fuze-timing electronics (4), which comprise a (voltage) demodulator (30), a (current) modulator (31) and a microprocessor (32) having an RC-oscillator cycle counter (32.1), an RC oscillator (33), a fuze-timing counter (34) and an actuator end stage (36). A firing sensor (35) serves as the fuze-timing-time triggering element at the start of the flight phase.

  • Patent number: 6247411
Abstract: An electric contact assembly in combination with a cartridge to be fired from a weapon barrel. The cartridge has a cartridge case including a metal bottom having an externally exposed outer face; and an electronic unit disposed in the cartridge case. The electric contact assembly includes a contact arrangement for establishing an electric connection between the electronic unit and an evaluating and control apparatus situated externally of the cartridge. The contact arrangement includes a contact ring disposed in the case bottom and surrounds the longitudinal axis of the cartridge. The contact ring has an outer face which is approximately flush with the outer face of the case bottom. An insulation electrically insulates the contact ring from the case bottom. A magnetic field sensor emits a signal upon closing a breechblock of the weapon in which the cartridge is positioned. A switch is connected between the electronic unit and the contact ring.

Abstract: An electric contact assembly in combination with a cartridge to be fired from a weapon barrel. The cartridge has a cartridge case including a metal bottom having an externally exposed outer face; and an electronic unit disposed in the cartridge case. The electric contact assembly includes a first contact arrangement for establishing an electric connection between the electronic unit and an evaluating and control apparatus situated externally of the cartridge. The first contact arrangement includes a contact ring disposed in the cartridge bottom and surrounding the longitudinal axis of the cartridge. The contact ring has an outer face which is approximately flush with the outer face of the cartridge bottom. An insulation electrically insulates the contact ring from cartridge bottom. A second contact arrangement establishes an electric connection between the electronic unit and the evaluating and control apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6189430
Abstract: A weapon system, comprising a fire control system (1) and an ammunition unit (3) that can be fired from a weapon and that has at least one electronic switching device (8) that can be actuated by the fire control system (1). To achieve a constant, secure and simple monitoring of the link between the fire control computer (1) and the electronic switching device (8) to be triggered of the respective ammunition unit (3), a bidirectional data transfer is conducted via the two supply lines (15, 16) that are necessary for the voltage and current supply of the electronic switching device (8) of the respective ammunition unit (3). In the process, data are transmitted from the fire control system (1) to the electronic switching device (8) by a voltage modulation of the supply voltage, and data are transmitted from the switching device (8) to the fire control system (1) by a current modulation of the operating current.

  • Patent number: 4498362
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting rod or strand-like products comprised of a rotary holder positioned adjacent the outlet end of a tube from which a water jet is discharged and in which the rod or strand-like products are entrained. The rotary holder includes a plurality of individually actuatable cutting blades movable between cutting and non-cutting positions. An optical scanner determines the presence of dark or discolored areas on the products and generates a signal timed to actuate a sufficient number of cutting blades which will cut through the product as it emerges from the tube and separate the discolored area from the acceptable areas. The cutting blades can be held inoperative by electromagnets and returned by a cam. Alternatively, the blades can include a deflection member and jet nozzles can be employed to pivot the blades in and out of the cutting position.

  • Patent number: 4390782
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the liquid level in each of a plurality of containers in which each bottle passes in succession on a conveyor belt past a measuring station and between a radiation source and detector at the station. Each bottle is detected as it reaches the station to trigger actuation of the radiation source for a given number of time periods. Each period is of fixed duration and the time between periods is varied in accordance with the speed of belt and container so that each container receives the same radiation regardless of its speed.

  • Patent number: 4114488
Abstract: Apparatus for moving uniformly colored elongated objects, such as raw potato sticks, peeled raw carrots, etc., past sensing equipment. The sensing equipment scans the elongated objects for areas which deviate in color from the essentially uniform color thereof and actuates cutting means which thereafter removes the area of discoloration.
