  • Patent number: 6450072
Abstract: A tappet screw adjuster having an outer sleeve, an inner shaft, a bearing block, a handle, and a rotary coupling disposed between the bearing block and the inner shaft. The rotary coupling is designed such that the bearing block and inner shaft rotate together when a load on the inner shaft is below a predetermined level and such that the bearing block and inner shaft do not rotate together when the load on the inner shaft exceeds the predetermined level. The rotary coupling includes a tension setting device, which is threadably secured to the bearing block, and a friction plate. The friction plate includes an annular projection that is received within a groove provided on the tension setting device.

  • Patent number: 5479720
Abstract: A caliper measuring system is provided for determining the thickness of a moving sheet. The system comprises first and second caliper sensing heads having first and second sensing shoes positioned on opposite sides of the moving sheet for engaging the sheet. A gap sensor is associated with the first and second sensing shoes for generating distance signals representative of the distance between the first and second sensing shoes and for determining the thickness of the moving sheet based upon the distance signals. The gap sensor includes a processor which determines the thickness of the moving sheet from the distance signals, generates a count of lumps sensed in the moving web, and generates a baring profile representative of rapid thickness variations along the moving sheet in the direction of movement of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 5172600
Abstract: A linear weight actuator includes a clamp assembly adjustably connecting the power screw to the output spindle. The assembly includes an integrally formed key, riding in a slot formed in the actuator housing, which obviates the need for a separate key element. A mounting plate is adjustably clamped to the actuator housing, by a threaded mounting nut, such that the plate may be conveniently rotated relative to the housing. A linear bearing disposed in the mounting nut provides lateral support for the output spindle at a point spaced from the clamp assembly. A clamping ring encircles a thinned segment of the power nut and urges it against the power screw to prevent backlash.

  • Patent number: 5060539
Abstract: A pneumatic stepper motor weight actuator captures the advantages of polymeric harmonic gears while occupying less space and eliminating the problems associated with air entrapment in the stator grooves. Air entrapment is eliminated by providing orificed air passages from the bottom of the longitudinal stator grooves to the center stator hole. Advantageously, the actuator includes a rigid gear comprising a toothed polymeric sleeve adhesively bonded inside a metal cup.
