  • Publication number: 20200176981
Abstract: Embodiments of electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuits are disclosed along with methods of providing ESD protection. In one embodiment, an ESD protection circuit includes a first ESD protection clamp and a second ESD protection clamp operably associated in a dual-polarity ESD protection configuration. The first ESD protection clamp includes a trigger path and a clamped ESD protection path. The first ESD protection clamp is configured to trigger the clamped ESD protection path in response to an input voltage reaching a trigger voltage level. The second ESD protection clamp breaks down in response to the input voltage reaching a clamp breakdown voltage level that has a magnitude equal to or greater than the trigger voltage level. Since the clamp breakdown voltage level is equal to or greater than the trigger voltage level provided by the first ESD protection clamp, the ESD protection circuit can provide better ESD protection performance ratings.

  • Patent number: 7330071
Abstract: A system and method are provided for efficiently amplifying a radio frequency signal. In general, the system includes power amplifier circuitry that efficiently amplifies an input signal under power back-off conditions. In one embodiment, the power amplifier circuitry has an efficiency of at least 30% at a 6 dB back-off point. In addition, DC-DC conversion circuitry operates to control a variable supply voltage provided to the power amplifier circuitry, thereby controlling an output power level, or average output power, of the power amplifier circuitry.

  • Patent number: 6720831
Abstract: A power amplifier circuit comprises a sensing circuit and a processing circuit adapted to detect voltage peaks in an output of a power amplifier. If the voltage peak is above a predetermined threshold level, the processing circuit acts to reduce bias provided to the power amplifier, thereby reducing the output levels.

  • Patent number: 6525611
Abstract: The present invention provides circuitry for detecting excessive voltages at the output of a power amplifier and reducing the bias provided to the amplifier upon detecting excessive voltages. By reducing the amplifier bias, the amplifier's gain is reduced, which will effectively suppress the output voltages until the excessive voltage condition is removed. Peak detection circuitry is adapted to monitor the voltages of a radio frequency (RF) signal at the device output. When voltages for the RF output signal exceed a predefined threshold, the peak detection circuitry will provide an appropriate bias control signal to a bias network for the amplifier circuitry. The bias network is preferably configured to respond to the bias control signal by reducing the bias provided to the amplifier circuitry, thereby reducing the gain of the amplifier circuitry.
