  • Patent number: 6199941
Abstract: An impact absorbing member is provided that can absorb impact energy in an upper vehicle body portion. The member may be provided in an interval between a vehicle body structural member and an interior trim spaced from the structural member. The energy absorbing member is a hybrid pipe having a metal foil core member and sheets laminated on opposite surfaces of the core member, each sheet being formed from a material other than metal. The core member and the sheets on the opposite surfaces of the core member are shaped so that the hybrid pipe has protruded portions and recessed portions that are contiguous in a direction of an axis of the hybrid pipe. Various configurations are provided to adjust and control energy absorbing characteristics of the energy absorbing member.

  • Patent number: 5093615
Abstract: A movement for instrument is of thin construction. A rotatably supported shaft extends through a thin magnet and supports the magnet on it. The magnet radiates a magnetic field that varies in magnetic field strength in accordance with a sine function along a circular path about the shaft. A signal generator provides a first current and a second current. First straight conductors are disposed in a first direction parallel to the surface of the thin magnet, are laid in the magnetic field of the magnet, and are supplied with the first current through them. Second straight conductors are disposed in a second direction parallel to the surface of the magnet and transverse to the first direction. The second conductors are laid in the magnetic field of the magnet and are supplied with the second current through them. Thus, the magnet is angularly positioned in accordance with the magnitudes and directions of said first and second currents, thereby causing the pointer to indicate the angular position of the magnet.

  • Patent number: 3978750
Abstract: An apparatus for adjusting the frequency of an oscillating element provided with a hair sp extracts an oscillating signal from the oscillating element which is oscillated by the elastic force of the hair spring. High frequency pulses are counted by a counter during a predetermined period of the oscillation signal. On the other hand, further high frequency pulses are counted by another counter. When the count value of the latter counter coincides with that of the former counter, the input pulses to the latter counter are stopped by the coincidence output. Until the coincidence between the count values of both the counters is established, the hair spring is transported to adjust the length thereof. Thereafter, the unnecessary hair spring is cut away. Since this apparatus detects an appropriate length of the hair spring by electronic circuitry, it is small in size, and the unnecessary length of hair spring is automatically cut away.
