  • Patent number: 6079393
Abstract: A system for controlling fuel vapors of an internal combustion engine having a fuel supply system including a fuel tank for supplying fuel to an air intake system such that an air-fuel mixture flows to a combustion chamber, including a canister purge mechanism for purging the stored fuel vapors into the air intake system of the engine through a purge line. A purged fuel amount supplied to the combustion chamber of the engine is calculated and a fuel injection amount to be supplied to the engine is determined based on the calculated purged fuel amount and a basic fuel inject-on amount. In the system, the purged fuel amount is calculated based on the estimated amount of the fuel vapors in response to a transport delay of the purged fuel vapors.

  • Patent number: 6003308
Abstract: An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine has an exhaust gas-purifying device arranged in the exhaust system of the engine. An oxygen concentration sensor is arranged either in the exhaust system at a location downstream of the exhaust gas-purifying device or in the exhaust gas-purifying device, and an ECU periodically changes the air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine alternately to a rich side and to a lean side with respect to a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. The purification capacity of the exhaust gas-purifying device is determined based on an output from the oxygen concentration sensor. The repetition period of the periodical changing of the air-fuel ratio is shortened as the determined purification capacity is deteriorated.

  • Patent number: 5899192
Abstract: A fuel supply control system for an internal combustion engine. A load condition sensor detects a load condition of the engine, and an ECU increases the amount of fuel to be supplied to the engine when a predetermined high load condition of the engine is detected by the load condition sensor, and sets a delay time period from detection of the predetermined high load condition of the engine by the load condition sensor to execution of increase of the amount of fuel, according to operating conditions of the engine. A time period elapsed from the detection of the predetermined high load condition is counted. The set delay time period is corrected based on a ratio of the set delay time period to the counted time period and the load condition of the engine detected by the load condition sensor before the detection of said predetermined high load condition.

  • Patent number: 5724952
Abstract: There is provided an air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine. The air-fuel ratio control system has an air-fuel ratio sensor arranged in an exhaust passage of the engine, which generates an output proportional to concentration of oxygen in exhaust gases emitted from the engine. The air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine is controlled to a desired air-fuel ratio in response to the output from the air-fuel ratio sensor by the use of a proportional term and an integral term. A repetition period of inversion of the output from the air-fuel ratio sensor with respect to a predetermined reference value is calculated. Deterioration of the air-fuel ratio sensor is detected based the repetition period of inversion of the output from the air-fuel ratio sensor.

  • Patent number: 5702384
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for gene therapy to transfer or introduce, in vivo, a gene for treatment into a cell located at a target portion of a patient, so that the gene can be transferred with a high probability within a short period of time. The apparatus is applicable to all cell species. In addition to simple supply of a gene to the cell of the patient, the gene is forcibly transferred to the cell without depending on natural cellular physiology. For example, catheters are mounted on a probe inserted into a body cavity, and the gene is supplied from a reservoir which stores the gene to the surface of a human living cell of the target portion in the body cavity through needle cannulas attached to the distal ends of the catheters. A pulse voltage is applied to the needle cannulas to form a pore in the surface of the human living cell upon application of the pulse voltage. The gene is transferred into the human living cell through the pore.
