Publication number: 20020022204Abstract: The present invention provides a small-sized and lightweight catalytic combustor which can operate stably against variations of members to be heated. The catalytic combustor includes a heat-conductive separator for defining a combustion chamber and conducting heat to a member to be heated, the separator has projections and depressions in at least one part of a surface facing the combustion chamber, and an oxidation catalyst is supported on at least one part of the projections and depressions of the heat-conductive separator. By providing the projections and depressions in the surface of the heat-conductive separator, which faces the combustion chamber, a flow of a mixture of combustible materials and combustion-assisting materials can partly stay around the projections and depressions to enable a stable combustion thereof even at various flow rates.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2001Publication date: February 21, 2002Applicant: KABUSHIKI KAISHA TOYOTA CHUO KENKYUSHOInventors: Susumu Nagano, Katsuyuki Ohsawa

Patent number: 5215788Abstract: When a mixture of gases containing carbon is burned to form a film of diamond on a surface of a substrate held at an appropriate temperature, it is so burned as to form a substantially flat region of incomplete combustion lying in parallel to the substrate surface and contacting it, while the region is surrounded by an air-shielding gas stream or formed under a reduced pressure.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1991Date of Patent: June 1, 1993Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Motohide Murayam, Shinji Kojima, Katsuyuki Ohsawa, Shoji Noda, Kiyoshi Uchida

Patent number: 5024184Abstract: A direct fuel injection internal combustion engine comprises an auxiliary piston in an auxiliary cylinder for modulating sharp pressure rises in the combustion chamber. The main piston has a cavity into which injected fuel is directed. The fuel injection stream and the output from the auxiliary cylinder intersect.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1989Date of Patent: June 18, 1991Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Susumu Nagano, Hiromitsu Kawazoe, Katsuyuki Ohsawa

Patent number: 4676216Abstract: An injection nozzle comprises: a nozzle body arranged in a case in such a manner that the nozzle body is movable along the axis thereof; an injection outlet for jetting fuel when said nozzle body is moved along the axis to open the injection outlet; at least one fluid jetting outlet which is communicated through a fluid supply passage to a fluid supply device, for jetting fluid towards the fuel thus jetted; and a control unit having at least one stationary opening and a movable opening to supply fluid to the fluid jetting outlet when the stationary and movable openings are aligned with each other, to thereby control fluid jetted from the fluid jetting outlet. The fluid jetted from the fluid jetting outlet is applied to the fuel jetted by the injection outlet, to cause the kinetic energy of the fluid to shear the fuel and to thereby improve the atomization of fuel, and to control a fuel scattering direction and a fuel spray pattern.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1985Date of Patent: June 30, 1987Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Katsuyuki Ohsawa, Hiromitsu Kawazoe, Susumu Nagano

Patent number: 4422423Abstract: A jet control type carburetor according to the present invention includes an intake pipe having an intake passage formed in an inner wall thereof, the intake passage allowing an intake air to flow therethrough; a venturi provided in the intake pipe, for controlling flow velocity and pressure of the intake air in the intake passage; a fuel nozzle opened into the intake passage and connected to a fuel supply source through a fuel passage for sucking the fuel within the intake passage from the fuel nozzle in order to introduce the mixture of air and fuel within the intake passage; a throttle valve provided downstream of the venturi, for controlling the flow rate of the mixture of intake air and fuel; a control fluid nozzle opened into the intake passage and connected to a fluid supply source through a control fluid passage for jetting the flow of the control fluid to the fuel spurted from the fuel nozzle to afford the kinetic energy of the control fluid to the fuel, and a throttle means provided upstream of theType: GrantFiled: April 16, 1980Date of Patent: December 27, 1983Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenyushoInventors: Katsuhiko Sugiyama, Katsuyuki Ohsawa, Kenji Fujikake, Yoshinori Idota

Patent number: 4404859Abstract: A flowmeter comprises a first tube having a first flow passage therethrough with its cross-sectional area being smaller at the outlet than at the inlet, a second tube disposed substantially concentrically within the first flow passage and having a second flow passage therethrough with its cross-sectional area being minimum substantially midway thereof, a third flow passage providing fluid communication between ports opening respectively at a sidewall of the second tube into the second flow passage adjacent to the minimum portion and at a sidewall of the first tube into the first flow passage, and a sensor disposed in either the third flow passage, the sidewall of the first tube, or the sidewall of the second tube for detecting periodic variations of a fluid flowing through the first, second, or third flow passage. The flowmeter detects the frequency of variations in the pressure or speed of a fluid, thus detecting the rate of flow of the fluid through the first and second tubes.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1982Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Katsuyuki Ohsawa, Katsuhiko Sugiyama, Yoshinori Idota
