  • Patent number: 5986247
Abstract: A high frequency heating device having a switching member screwed into a screw hole formed in a flange and fixed to the exterior. When the exterior is fixed to the body, a through-hole formed at that portion in the rear plate of the body through which the switching member passes is too large for the switching member. Thus, while the switching member is fixable to the exterior, the switching member cannot be fixed to the body onto which the exterior is not mounted. Therefore, a high frequency heating device can be provided, wherein an exterior switch more surely keeps the power supply circuit open when the exterior is removed.

  • Patent number: 5358909
Abstract: A field-emitter having stable electrical properties, a long service life and a very small electron emission voltage is provided. The cathode of the element has a strongly sharpened projection at the tip end, and a smooth connection between the projection and the body portion. In the method of manufacturing the elements, cathodes are produced with a high reproducibility by using a mold produced by forming concave portions in the silicon and oxidizing the layer thereon, whereby the spacing between the cathode and the gate electrode is determined by the thickness of the silicon oxide layer, and the position of the cathode is determined by the silicon oxide layer embedded in the silicon substrate, by using an etching stop method based on an electrochemical etching process.

  • Patent number: 5323470
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for automatically tracking the position of a moving object in real time, particularly the face of a person who is being fed by a robotic system, is disclosed. The object can be tracked by comparing a prestored object model image with the current image of the object using the square-distance criteria. The search area can be limited to a region in which the face is most likely to be found and the prestored object model image can be limited to robust points. The method can include motion prediction, including both continuous motion and sudden motion, such as the motion cause by a person sneezing. Alternatively, a computationally efficient approach employing a one-dimensional algorithm can be used.

  • Patent number: 5287691
Abstract: A metal cord is formed by twisting two spirally preshaped metal filaments together with a twisting pitch P. The metal filament has not only the spiral shape formed by twisting, but retains so much of its spiral preshape as to have a pitch p equal to 0.20-0.50 times the twisting pitch and a diametric height h of 0.05-0.25 mm. The retained spiral shape is in the same rotary direction as the direction in which the filaments are twisted together.

  • Patent number: 5285381
Abstract: A control system for rapid fault tolerant control of a multiple control-point apparatus is disclosed. The system comprises: a host subsystem acting as a user interface; a plurality of control-point actuators; a master controller subsystem which receives initialization data from the host terminal and which generates behavior commands; and a control-point controller subsystem which receives behavior commands from the master controller subsystem and generates control-point actuator commands. The control-point controller subsystem is made fault tolerant by using a plurality of control-point processors connected to control-point interfaces through a programmable crossbar switch such that if any of the control-point processors develops a fault, the crossbar switch will connect one of the other control-point processors to the control-point interface previously serviced by the faulty control-point processors.

  • Patent number: 5118568
Abstract: A steel cord for reinforcing rubber. It is made of three steel filaments all having different diameters from one another. The small-diameter and medium-diameter ones of the three filaments have internal stresses adapted to be released when the cord is cut at both ends thereof. Owing to these stresses, the diameter of the cord is adapted to increase after it is cut at both ends. At the same time, the medium-diameter and small-diameter filaments retract inwardly from the ends of the large-diameter and medium-diameter ones, respectively.
