Patent number: 8725079Abstract: An interference analysis tool for identifying an interference problem area in a cellular radio network in which at least a first User Equipment (UE1) and a second UE (UE2) operate. The tool receives signal quality measurements and determines uplink or downlink interference severity. For UE2 uplink interference, the tool determines a first uplink Signal-to-Interference-and-Noise-Ratio (SINR) experienced by UE2, wherein the first SINR includes uplink interference from UE1. The tool also determines a second uplink SINR level (SINR0) experienced by UE2, wherein SINR0 does not include the uplink interference from UE1. The tool calculates a difference (?SINR) between SINR and SINR0 for UE2, and identifies the area where UE1 is operating as an interference-causing area when the ?SINR for UE2 is greater than a threshold value. The tool may present interference severity levels to an operator, and may initiate Radio Resource Management (RRM) procedures to mitigate interference problems in the network.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2011Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Ke Wang Helmersson, Martin Hessler

Patent number: 8483737Abstract: A method and arrangement in a node for allocating transmission resources is presented. The present method and arrangement for scheduling, allocates frequency resources based on the received signal power of user equipment. Thus in particular uplink power can be better utilized. According to the present method and arrangement the resource blocks are distributed so that the SINR of all scheduled user equipments reach a selected SINR target. The selection of SINR targets may be static or dynamic. Further, according to the present method and arrangement, optimization of system and user performance may be combined.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2008Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Eva Englund, Pål Frenger, Kristina Jersenius, Ke Wang Helmersson

Patent number: 8385832Abstract: A multi-carrier cellular radio communication system includes a serving base station associate with a serving cell currently serving a mobile radio and a non-serving base station within range of the mobile radio and associated with a non-serving cell. The mobile radio can transmit to the serving base station at the same time over multiple radio frequency carriers. An estimate is made of inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell caused by uplink transmission by the mobile radio over one or more of the multiple radio frequency carriers over which the mobile radio is currently simultaneously transmitting. If the estimated inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell exceeds a predetermined threshold, then the inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell is reduced or limited by managing radio resources so that the estimated inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell is or becomes less than the predetermined threshold.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2010Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Klas Johansson, Ke Wang Helmersson

Patent number: 8385969Abstract: In a cellular radio system Transmission Power Control (TPC) power offset is set so that it is adjusted for each transmitting radio base station based on available relevant measurements that reflect the quality of the downlink channel carrying the uplink TPC command whereby an improved performance is obtained. The TPC power offset can for example be based on an estimated uplink Dedicated Physical Control CHannel (DPCCH) SINR, the number of TPC “up” and the number of TPC “down” sent by a radio base station and aggregated UE receiver power or UE transmit power over a number N slots. Also a mobile station used in a cellular radio system supporting soft handover may be adapted to apply TPC discarding thresholds based on the number and the quality of simultaneously received TPC commands.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2008Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Zhang Zhang, Ke Wang Helmersson, Rong Hu, Muhammad Kazmi, Bengt Lindoff

Patent number: 8320266Abstract: A method and a device relating to a scheduling mechanism in a base station in a WCDMA system are disclosed. The mechanism enables the base station to rapidly adapt to users momentary traffic demands and to interference variations, a dynamical adjustable margin is proposed in this invention. The adjustment is based on the RoT measurement in a cell. To fully use the resource in a cell, the RoT can be targeted to be as closer to the RoTmax as possible however without exceed the limit. The scheduler is preferably set to schedule as high a rate or as many users as possible to fill up the available RoT. The margin which is reserved for the neighboring cell load and external interference is decreased step by step as long as the RoT measurement is below a threshold under RoTmax. Whenever the RoT measurement exceeds the threshold, the margin is increased by one step.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2006Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ke Wang Helmersson, Eva Englund, Patrik Karlsson
