  • Patent number: 8362883
Abstract: Methods are provided for communicating information via a tactile sense is provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving input information at a controller comprising a processor. In addition, the method comprises generating a tactile sequence from the input information according to a predetermined communication structure via the controller and transmitting the tactile sequence to a display comprising a plurality of activators. Thereafter, the method comprises outputting the tactile sequence on the display. Systems are also provided for carrying out the described methods.

  • Publication number: 20110218953
Abstract: A method for evaluating a human interface of a system for appropriate allocation of design guidance including establishing guidelines for avoiding sensory overload conditions of a human interacting with a system, identifying an event associated with the system producing a potential sensory overload condition, and generating a human interface design recommendation based on the guidelines for modifying an operation of the system to help alleviate the potential sensory overload condition associated with the event.

  • Publication number: 20090082692
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method is provided for classifying cognitive activity in an individual. In the method, a candidate time interval is identified from a first type of physiological data within which cognitive processing is expected to occur for the individual. In addition, a second type of physiological data is obtained that comprises data representative of a cognitive state of the individual. Further, the data representative of a cognitive state of the individual is extracted from the second type of physiological data based on the identified candidate time interval.
