  • Patent number: 7454168
Abstract: A communication bit rate computing unit (24) computes the cumulative bit rate of downlink communication data, at which a base station communicates with a terminal, and totalizes the bit rates for each sector area. A amplitude/phase control unit (23) checks whether the cumulative bit rate for each sector area, reported from the communication bit rate computing unit (24), is higher than a first threshold or lower than a second threshold. If the cumulative bit rate is higher than the first threshold, the amplitude/phase control unit (23) performs directing characteristic control so as to narrow the area range of the corresponding sector area to a range smaller than a standard area range. If the cumulative bit rate is lower than the second threshold, the amplitude/phase control unit (23) performs directing characteristic control so as to widen the area range of the corresponding sector area to a range larger than the standard area range.

  • Publication number: 20050255891
Abstract: An adaptive antenna transmission apparatus, used in a base station apparatus of a cellular communication system, for transmitting signals by a plurality of antenna elements constituting an adaptive antenna. In the adaptive antenna transmission apparatus, a base station apparatus (1) detects an interference component, which is a reflection component of a downlink transmission signal of its own base at an interference processing part (7), and controls the downlink transmission directivity, in accordance with the result of detection at a signal processing part (4), so as to minimize the reflected component. This can reduce the interference power of the downlink transmission signal at the base station apparatus (1), and thereby can prevent decrease of the channel capacity and make the effective operation of the base station.

  • Patent number: 6140961
Abstract: Circuitry for controlling the directivity of an adaptive antenna including a plurality of antenna elements and forming the directivity by varying signals fed to the antenna elements such that a gain in a preselected direction increases is disclosed. The circuitry includes a transmitting section for transmitting a scanning pilot channel for scanning on a downlink while causing the pilot channel to move in a propagation range covered by the adaptive antenna. A receiving section receives a signal representative of the intensity of the scanning pilot channel received by a mobile station. A controller detects a transmission direction in which the mobile station receives the scanning pilot channel with the highest quality, and applies the directivity parameter of the detected direction to the directivity of a downlink. The circuitry improves the directivity of the downlink in mobile communication.
