  • Patent number: 11909124
Abstract: An electronic device having multiple antenna groups for data communication may determine a temperature of a first antenna group and determine a power gain of a second antenna group. The electronic device may communicate using the second antenna group in response to determining that the temperature of the first antenna group exceeds a temperature threshold and the power gain of the second antenna group exceeds a gain threshold. In some embodiments, the electronic device may receive communication link preferences, determine an antenna group that is disposed outside of thermal hotspots of the electronic device, and determine a beam that enables the communication link preferences via the antenna group. The electronic device may then transmit or receive data via the antenna group by forming the beam.

  • Publication number: 20240030997
Abstract: Some aspects relate to apparatuses and methods for selecting a receiving beam based on hybrid channel based beamforming and codebook based beamforming. A user equipment (UE) can determine, based on a first measurement related to signal to noise ratio (SNR) and predetermined threshold values, whether the UE is in a low SNR state. If the UE is in a low SRN state, the UE can derive an estimated channel covariance matrix RCH for channels at a set of antenna elements of the UE based on channel based bearmforming (CHBF). Afterwards, a set of test bears {0, . . . Ntest?1} is selected based on the channel covariance matrix RCH, and a set of codebook measurement beams is further selected based on the set of test beams. A receiving beam is selected based on a set of measurements performed on the set of codebook measurement beams at the measurement opportunity for codebook based beamforming (CBBF).

  • Publication number: 20230088966
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) is configured to determine a probability metric for a likelihood of a beam failure event at the UE, implement a beam management power saving scheme based on the probability metric and process a portion of network scheduled beam recovery resources within a time window. A UE may also be configured to generate a radio link monitoring (RLM) block error rate (BLER) metric associated with a beam, determine that the RLM BLER metric is below a threshold value and disable beam failure detection (BFD) and candidate beam detection (CBD) procedures at the UE in response to determining that the RLM BLER metric is below the threshold value.

  • Patent number: 10064139
Abstract: Described herein are technologies related to an implementation of a thermal management scheme in a device. Particularly, a look up table or LUT is configured to include a data set of information (e.g., user-profile data, network-profile data) and a corresponding recommended thermal throttling mode. During regular device operation, conditions internal/external to the device is detected and the corresponding thermal throttling mode (from the LUT) is applied. In certain implementations, optimization algorithms are used in place of the LUT.

  • Patent number: 9860773
Abstract: A thermal finite-state-automaton includes system states and transitions between the system states. The system states may be based on a combination of network parameters for communicating through the wireless communication system and UE processing parameters. A default state is for operation of the UE at a sustainable performance configuration level for the network parameters and the UE processing parameters to maintain a UE temperature below a first temperature threshold. A high state is for operation of the UE during up to a maximum time duration at a peak performance configuration level for the network parameters and the UE processing parameters. A recovery state is for operation of the UE during at least a minimum time duration at a reduced performance configuration level for the network parameters and the UE processing parameters. An emergency shutdown state is triggerable by the UE temperature exceeding a second temperature threshold.
