    Abstract: The disclosed portable self-powered flow measuring device has a non-metallic housing through which a fluid flows. An annular turbine spins within the housing, and has a set of inwardly-extending vanes set to reduce the pressure of the flowing fluid by more than 10%. A set of magnets that are spaced circumferentially about the turbine. Coils are mounted to the housing with axes that are radial to the axis of the central waterway. A set of circumferentially spaced reinforcing arms, one for each coil, are positioned outside the coils, the circumferential width of each reinforcing arm near the axial position of the turbine being no more than the radius of the coil.

In an example, a filtration system interrogates, via a radio-frequency identification (RFID) access device, a RFID tag that is positioned on a filter module that is positioned in the filtration system. In response to interrogating the RFID tag, the filtration accesses, an operational parameter stored on the RFID tag and associated with the filter module. The filtration adjusts an operational setting of the filtration system based on the operational parameter. The filtration system operates the filtration system based on the adjusted operational setting.

    Abstract: A telescoping waterway component for use in firefighting equipment has a multi-piece outer tube and a telescoping inner tube through which fluid flows. An inlet component is selectively positionable at different inlet heights along the outer tube and can be positioned to provide different inlet angles. A rotating shutoff element is mounted within a manifold of the inlet component. The inner tube can be retracted to nest within a hollow cross-section of the shutoff element when that element is closed. A valve interlock disables an operator from rotating the shutoff element while the inner tube is retracted, or from retracting the inner tube while the shutoff element is open.

A method of installing the cover on the elongated member is also provided, along with a method of making one embodiment of the cover. In another aspect, a cover for use on an elongated member includes a longitudinally extending, resilient channel having a tab portion adapted to engage the elongated member. A centralized continuous light source is coupled via a fiber optic transmission medium to an external display location such as a lens or the like located on a vehicle. The color and the relative intensity of each color is periodically modulated to alternate between at least two states such that the contrast between these alternating states is perceived by observers to be a flashing source of light with no off-time. The frequency and the duty cycle of the repetition rate of alternating between the states may be further controlled to better draw attention to the light source.

    Abstract: An emergency signalling system is disclosed that incorporates an emergency signalling device including a light source and reflector mounted for relative rotation in incremental steps in either clockwise or counterclockwise directions. A programmable control unit of the signalling system provides digital signals to a drive source for controlling the speed and direction of the relative rotation. In response to the digital signals, the signalling device executes a variety of different visual patterns. The signalling system can be programmed from a keyboard preferably integrated into a control head mounted to a dashboard area of a vehicle incorporating the emergency signalling system. Virtually any type of visual warning pattern based on the relative rotation of a light source and reflector can be executed by the signalling device if properly programmed.
