  • Publication number: 20150034406
Abstract: An electric vehicle is provided, which includes a circuit for discharging a capacitor which smoothes electric current of a power converter. A hybrid vehicle includes a capacitor for smoothing electric current, a discharge circuit, and a discharge controller. The discharge circuit is connected to the capacitor in parallel. The discharge circuit includes a series circuit configured by a first resistor, a PTC thermistor, and a switch. When the discharge controller closes the switch, electric current starts to flow through the first resistor and the PTC thermistor. The capacitor is discharged rapidly. When continuing inflow of electric current to the discharge circuit is more than envisaged, the temperature rises due to heat generation by the PTC thermistor itself, and resistance increases. Thereupon, the electric current flowing into the first resistor is suppressed, suppressing heat generation of the first resistor.

  • Publication number: 20150015248
Abstract: An art of measuring a current with a suppressed influence of a switching noise is provided. The art disclosed by the present specification is a current sensor that measures an output current of a switching circuit. The current sensor is equipped with a magneto-optical element that is arranged at a current measurement point, a light source that radiates light onto the magneto-optical element, and a light receiver that receives transmitted light or reflected light of the magneto-optical element. The light source radiates light in synchronization with a carrier signal of the switching circuit. Light is radiated in synchronization with the carrier signal, and a current is measured with the aid of the light. Due to synchronization with the carrier signal, the current can be measured at timings other than a switching timing resulting from a PWM signal that is generated on the basis of the carrier signal.

  • Publication number: 20140232183
Abstract: There is provided a technology of preventing a discharging device from being damaged by induced current caused by back electromotive force of a motor in an electric vehicle including the discharging device for discharging a capacitor in collision. A hybrid vehicle includes a capacitor, a current sensor, a discharging circuit, and a controller. The capacitor is connected to an input side of the inverter. The discharging circuit is connected in parallel with the capacitor. The current sensor measures induced current caused by back electromotive force of a motor. When a signal indicating abnormality or collision is inputted, the controller activates the discharging circuit if the induced current measured by the current sensor is less than a predetermined current threshold, and does not activate the discharging circuit if the induced current is greater than the predetermined current threshold.

  • Publication number: 20140210260
Abstract: An electric power conversion system for an electric vehicle includes a capacitor operable to smooth a current of the battery, first discharge resistor and second discharge resistor operable to discharge the capacitor, a first substrate attached to a case of the capacitor, and a second substrate in which a circuit that controls the second discharge resistor is mounted. The second discharge resistor rapidly discharges the capacitor while generating a larger amount of heat per unit time per unit current than the first discharge resistor. The case of the capacitor is located between the second discharge resistor and the second substrate. An electrically conducting path that electrically connects the second substrate with the second discharge resistor is routed through the first substrate.
