    Abstract: This invention relates to a method, kit and controls for detecting HER-2/neu gene amplification as a predictor of breast cancer reoccurrence and patient survival. The method is a fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) assay using a labeled DNA probe. By determining the genetic nature of the cancer cells, appropriate treatment may be utilized. Control tumor cell lines with predefined amounts of HER-2/neu gene amplification are also disclosed.
