  • Patent number: 6372831
Abstract: The present invention is an flame resistant resin composition comprising: A) from about 50 to about 90 parts by weight of a rubber modified polymer derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer, B) from about 1 to about 8 parts by weight of an impact modifier, C) from about 0.5 to about 5 parts by weight of a polyolefin having a density of greater than 0.940 g/cm3 and a melt flow rate of less than 4 as measured according to ASTM D1238 at 190° C. using a 2.16 kg weight, D) a sufficient amount of a halogen-containing flame retardant to provide the composition with 7 to 14 parts by weight halogen, and E) from about 2 to about 6 parts by weight of an inorganic flame retardant synergist.

  • Patent number: 6087447
Abstract: Blends of polymeric materials comprising (A) from about 1 to about 99 weight percent of at least one interpolymer containing (1) from about 1 to about 65 mole percent of (a) at least one vinylidene aromatic monomer, or (b) at least one hindered aliphatic vinylidene monomer, or (c) a combination of at least one vinylidene aromatic monomer and at least one hindered aliphatic vinylidene monomer, and (2) from about 35 to about 99 mole percent of at least one aliphatic .alpha.-olefin having from 2 to about 20 carbon atoms; and (B) from about 1 to about 99 weight percent of at least one homopolymer or interpolymer of one or more vinylidene aromatic monomers and/or one or more hindered aliphatic vinylidene monomers. These blends have been observed to possess improved properties when compared to the individual polymers comprising the blend and to provide materials with enhanced processability and temperature ranges of performance.

  • Patent number: 5194527
Abstract: A process for preparing polymers comprising pendant ketone functional moieties, the steps of the process comprising exposing a mixture comprising an ethylenically unsaturated addition polymerizable monomer and a .beta.-substituted ketone compound corresponding to the formula:XCH.sub.2 --CHR'--C(O)RwhereX is a suitable leaving group,R' is hydrogen or R; andR is alkyl or aryl of up to 12 carbonsto vinyl ketone monomer formation conditions to prepare the corresponding vinyl ketone monomer from the .beta.-substituted ketone compound and subsequently exposing the mixture to addition polymerization conditions to prepare the resulting polymer.
