Abstract: A personal digital assistant can display large amounts of information as well as advertising by scrolling information and advertising in a ticker-tape format scrolled or rotated across a limited portion of the screen. Soft keys or other input mechanisms can be used to toggle the solicitation and display of additional advertising information if necessary. Large amounts of information, or local information of interest to a PDA user can be sent in real time or hot linked into the PDA for consumption by the PDA user at a later time.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed herein for printing images on labels attached to a backing in a printing device. An apparatus and method for printing an image in a predetermined area of a form are also disclosed. Further characteristics and features of the present invention are additionally disclosed herein, as are exemplary alternative embodiments. Abstract: Advertising revenue generated from placing ads in a publication with limited available advertising space is automatically maximized at at least market rates by selecting the highest-paying ads for publication. Beginning with the highest-paying ads, available ad space in an on-line publication is filled with advertisements that will fit within ad space that is available in the publication. In the preferred embodiment, ads are matched to subscribers (recipients) of the publication according to subscriber demographic data.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for inhibiting the unauthorized copying of ROM-resident computer software or the like, for example, the audio-visual display of an electronic video game. A protection circuit including encryption/decryption means is coupled between the microprocessor and the ROM-memory and is operable in a first mode to properly encrypt/decrypt the program information according to a first algorithm and in a second mode to prevent proper encryption/decryption. The address-data buses are monitored by the protection circuit to detect an invalid program event, such as may occur when a microprocessor emulator is used to attempt an unauthorized copying or "dumping" of the program information. Upon detection of the invalid program event or "trap condition", the protection circuit switches to its second operating mode thereby to prevent copying of the decrypted program information.
