  • Patent number: 9399715
Abstract: Disclosed is a low VOC coating additive employing a water-dispersible polymer, a water insoluble plasticizer, cyclohexanedimethanol, and optionally an amphiphilic component. The additive can be added to a coating to improve at least one performance characteristics of the coating, such as, wet-edge time, open time, scrub resistance, wet adhesion, and water resistance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 19, 2011
Date of Patent: July 26, 2016
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company
Inventors: Rebecca Reid Stockl, Kevin Wayne McCreight, Thauming Kuo
  • Patent number: 8449939
Abstract: New compositions for forming films for use in optical devices are provided. The compositions comprise a cellulose and a crosslinking agent dissolved or dispersed in a solvent system. Preferred celluloses are cellulose esters such as cellulose acetates, cellulose triacetates, cellulose acetate phthalates, and cellulose acetate butyrates. Preferred crosslinking agents are triazines such as those derived from melamine and benzoguanamine. The inventive compositions can be used to form, for example, protective and/or compensation films for use in polarizing plates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 11, 2012
Date of Patent: May 28, 2013
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company
Inventors: Kevin Wayne McCreight, Douglas Claire Hoffman, Wesley Raymond Hale

  • Patent number: 7052540
Abstract: Aqueous dispersions of carboxylated cellulose esters are disclosed having a low organic solvent content. These dispersions can be prepared using a volatile hydrophilic organic solvent and a coupling organic solvent having a lower volatility, the volatile hydrophilic solvent being substantially stripped off during preparation to obtain a dispersion useful in a variety of coating compositions, providing satisfactory performance in metallic flake control, flow and leveling properties, and defect reduction.
